A Wonderfully Usable Book!
As a woman in recovery, and a suffer of PTSD issues, this book has given me a better understanding of how my alcoholism & addictions issues came to be. It also gives wonderful advice to add to one's 12-Step recovery program. I use them in my life today & share with other's what Jamie Marich has put into this book. Very user-friendly & easy to digest. I recommend it highly for anyone wanting to enhance their own recovery or for their loved ones who want to understand PTSD & addictions.

Finally, a honest appraisal of outdated 12 step language
This book provides a new understanding for those who suffer from trauma and the sometimes rigidity of 12 step language allowing the addict/alcoholic to take what fits and leave the rest. "Love and tolerance is our code"

Powerful book!
Love this book! The authors raw, honest writing speaks to my soul deeply. After reading this book I know that I'm not alone in the scary thoughts I have. This book was a great guide to helping me better understand my thoughts and how to control them instead of them controlling me!

Definitely useful if you do 12 steps and have trauma
She's definitely a 12 stepper , so if you find them harmful but are forced to use them, this is a nice way to approach them. Just take what helps you and leave the rest.

Very secluded group.
I didn’t know any of this could apply to me, or to others. My psychology reading from the 70’s is very shaming and outdated. But there is no advice on actually findin a 7 step group for adult children.

Brilliant!
I loved everything about this book. As a “seasoned” clinician it affirmed my current practices while enhancing it with new information and practical applications.

Loved it :)
Very helpful book even for lay people in understanding the need for holistic recovery. Practical solutions for addressing trauma and addiction by honoring every aspect of the individual. Sometimes you hear people say the steps don't work for everyone but I believe than can if we acknowledge our specific needs throughout the process.
