Fighting Germany's war against Bolshevism...
As with other occupied countries in Europe, Nazi Germany sought to raise troop formations in Norway to assist in its costly war with the Soviet Union. Norway, occupied since 1940, had its own small national socialist movement from which to draw volunteers, along with other persons determined to fight "Bolshevism." In the end, a Norwegian Waffen-SS Legion would fight for two years on the Eastern Front near Leningrad...This book is an extremely interesting Osprey Men-at-Arms title, drawing in a thoughtful way on an often overlooked aspect of the Second World War. The narrative is brisk and even-handed. It assigns due credit for combat exploits to the members of Legion, whose survivors would be ostracized by Norwegian society after the war. The book includes well-executed color plates of uniforms and equipment, along with commentary. Well recommended for its concise handling of the topic.

Great addition to Norwegian WW II History
A small but valuable resource for WW II history. As expected, well written and illustrated. Far more complete than Richard Landwehr's "Frontfighters; the Norwegian Volunteer Legion of the Waffen SS, 1941-43", the English translation and more of the 1943 Norwegian publication. (But still a valuable resource.) Far less expensive than the far more complete and well-illustrated German and English "Norwegian Volunteers of the Waffen SS" by Brenden and Natedal. With the "old breed" almost gone and a time-distance from the actual events, this 2019 book is a great introduction and starter-book for the younger generations of us of Norwegian ancestry who know little or nothing of this segment of Norwegian WW II history.

Worth the time
An interesting book that tells the story of the early history of the Norwegian Volunteers of the Waffen SS. Volunteering for service in Finland against the Soviets, they found themselves training in Germany, and being sent to the Leningrad area. A short but worthwhile read.

An informative historical guide. The art plates are well done. The images are crisp and the book arrived in perfect condition.
