AMAZING
Works perfect, audio is super clear using a Sennheiser MKH 416 with phantom power and it's flawless. Levels are shown on the monitor and on my HDMI output so it's super easy to monitor.

A seriously good idea for the GH5
I am changing my review, upgrading from three to five stars. I previously complained that this unit had a major design flaw due to the lack of a 1/8 inch female receptacle jack for connecting this unit to non-GH5 cameras, such as my numerous GH4 cameras. But that was unfair. I don't know the hardware limitations of the GH4 hotshoe, or if it could be configured through a firmware update to power this audio input device. This device is clearly aimed at working with the GH5 only. And that is OK. Lots of companies have devices that are designed to supplement their other devices. I just received my audio input unit today. Read the manual. I like it so much I have arranged the budgeting for purchasing a GH5 in a week or so. It seems like a perfect little unit for professional mic inputs. The unit is light and compact. Once I get my GH5, I will hook it up with a Rode NTG-3 and update my review.UPDATE: OK. I now have my GH5, and have set it up. I put this audio interface unit on it, and then put a Rode NTG-3 on that. I recorded a vlog. Here is the verdict. This unit is really great. Like, GREAT, great. There was no noise. The audio was spotless. Everything seems very sturdy. Also, I confirmed that this unit will NOT work with the GH4. I put it on one of my GH4s, and the audio interface would not power on. Apparently, there is no way to supply a constant source of power from the GH4 to this audio interface. So this interface is strictly for the GH5. But it is still one heck of a compact, light, and high quality audio interface. So when working with a GH4, one still has to use a Tascam or H4n if you want to feed XLR mics into the GH4. Or one can use, say, a Sony wireless setup to go directly into the GH4 without an interface. But for the GH5, this audio interface is the way to go.

Simple, effective solution for HQ audio (& surprisingly good limiter)
This has been a nice addition to my GH5 rig.I used to attach my Zoom H5 to my rig, and then run a line out from it into the GH5. Effectively, it gave me 2 XLR inputs, good quality audio directly in-cam, and the option to have a backup audio recording (in-cam and recording to the H5).Using the DMW-XLR1 is quicker and simpler to set up out of my bag—less cables, less weight. On a recent live-event shoot, when I thought intermittent loud music was clipping, I was surprised to hear that it all sounded great (I think it has a built-in limiter?). Either way, it sounded great and that was without using the -20db pad.Improvements/requested features for the next iteration:- Option to duplicate Ch.1 to Ch.2, but record Ch.2 at a lower db (however, maybe not needed as the limiter worked so well?)- A 3.5mm jack to accept a line out from something like a Zoom H5 recorder or other microphones with that outputGreat piece of gear that doesn't add weight or get in the way.

Works like a charm
Absolutely loving this product on my GH5. Too bad there isn't one like it or the GH4.

So far so good
I wanted a simple way to connect my pro mic with xlr connection directly to my camera so sound was already synced. There's obviously more options out there, but this does the job and offers a quick simple way to reduce editing time. For projects that need a quick turnaround, this is great.Reviews that point out how cheaply made it feels, are right. Light weight is good, but this really feels cheap for the price. The box arrived crushed, but the item seems fine. Conclusion: it does what it's supposed to do. But, I don't know if it will stand up to real world use, outside of a studio setting, as it feels like the slightest little knock could break it. Time will tell.Returned. Over a month and Amazon refuses to refund. Good product. Terrible service.
