Carib Sea ACS00223 African Ivory Coast Sand for Aquarium, 20-Pound

I received my sand today - took 1/4 of the bag- put it in a pail and flushed it with the sprinkler on the hose. Just let the bucket fill up and drain itself - moving the sand around the bottom of the pail as the water rushes through and within a few minutes it was clean and the water ran clean. It is very dirty and cloudy when you first start the wash. BUT the beautiful sand your left with is well worth it. It is just gorgeous and will be the base in my globe air fern terrariums. To me this unusual sand is well worth the cost and the effort to clean it up for use. Great buy, and it came faster then expected.

It did cloud up the tank initially (even after five rinses) but the next morning this is what my tank looked like. The substrate is beautiful!

If you keep fish from the East African Rift Lakes, you need to buffer the water to maintain high pH. Either you add chemicals or you use the right substrate. Believe me, this is far easier. It's good stuff, it looks right, and it's a good price.

Beautiful gravel! Yes you do have to wash it.It took me around 30 minutes of brisk scrubbing to have the water run clear or rather as close to clear as possible.My filter handled the rest and took overnight to settle,but now the water is crystal clear.Perfect for cichlids! I can't stress enough how happy I am with the look,and feel of this gravel.On a note the negative reviews,about having to wash the gravel imo are given by people that thought a little rinsing would cut it.With a gravel/sand this fine It takes a serious washing to remove the dust, but anything great is work a little extra effort, and this is a fantastic gravel.

The media could not be loaded.  LOVE this sand. I mixed it with some aragonite Fiji pink and it looks awesome! My cichlids love to dig in it. It stays clean and gives it a natural look.

Sand works great how ever I will say this is some of the dirtiest sand EVER!b Make sure you rinse it out in small batches. if you do it all at once it will take you for ever trust me. Once you drop in the sand add the clarifier that’s included in the package, in a high flow area of the tank so it can be distributed properly.

Great for Africans.. they love digging and making tunnels, it’s expensive up front but def worth it.. it’s kept my PH and nitrates down tremendously
