Product Description
FORKS OVER KNIVES examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods. The major storyline traces the personal journeys of Dr. T. Colin Campbell, a nutritional scientist from Cornell University, and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, a former top surgeon at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic. Inspired by remarkable discoveries in their young careers, these men conducted several groundbreaking studies. Their separate research led them to the same startling conclusion: degenerative diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even several forms of cancer, could almost always be prevented-and in many cases reversed-by adopting a whole foods, plant-based diet. In addition, cameras follow "reality patients" who have chronic conditions from heart disease to diabetes, and are taught by their doctors to adopt a whole foods plant-based diet as the primary approach to treat their ailments.

About the Actor
T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D.: For more than 40 years, Dr. Campbell has been at the forefront of nutrition research. His legacy, the China Project, is considered the most comprehensive study of health and nutrition ever conducted. Dr. Campbell is the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University and Project Director of the acclaimed China-Oxford-Cornell Diet and Health Project. The study was the culmination of a 20-year partnership of Cornell University, Oxford University and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine. Dr. Campbell received his master's degree and Ph.D. from Cornell, and served as a Research Associate at MIT. He spent 10 years on the faculty of Virginia Tech's Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition before returning to the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell in 1975 where he presently holds his Endowed Chair (now Emeritus). His principal scientific interests, which began with his graduate training in the late 1950s, has been on the effects of nutritional status on long term health, particularly on the cause of cancer. He has conducted original research both in laboratory experiments and in large-scale human studies; has received more than 70 grant-years of peer-reviewed research funding, mostly from the National Institute of Health, and has served on several grant review panels of multiple funding agencies. Dr. Campbell has lectured extensively, and has authored more than 300 research papers. He and his son, Thomas M. Campbell II, are authors of the bestselling book, The China Study: Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health.Dr. T. Colin Campbell is the recipient of several awards, both in research and citizenship, and has actively participated in the development of national and international nutrition policy. Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., received his B.A. from Yale University and his M.D. from Western Reserve University. In 1956, pulling the No. six oar as a member of the victorious United States rowing team, he was awarded a gold medal at the Olympic Games. He was trained as a surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic and at St. George's Hospital in London. In 1968, as an Army surgeon in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Dr. Esselstyn has been associated with the Cleveland Clinic since 1968. During that time, he has served as President of the Staff and as a member of the Board of Governors. He chaired the Clinic's Breast Cancer Task Force and headed its Section of Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery. In 1991, Dr. Esselstyn served as President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. That same year he organized the first National Conference on the Elimination of Coronary Artery Disease, which was held in Tucson, Arizona. In 1997, he chaired a follow-up conference, the Summit on Cholesterol and Coronary Disease, which brought together more than 500 physicians and health-care workers in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. In April, 2005, Dr. Esselstyn became the first recipient of the Benjamin Spock Award for Compassion in Medicine. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Cleveland Clinic Alumni Association in 2009.His scientific publications number over 150. "The Best Doctors in America" 1994-1995 published by Woodward and White cites Dr. Esselstyn's surgical expertise in the categories of endocrine and breast disease. In 1995 he published his bench mark long-term nutritional research on arresting and reversing coronary artery disease in severely ill patients. That same study was updated at 12 years making it one of the longest longitudinal studies of its type. It is most compelling, as no compliant patients have sustained disease progression. Today, 20 years later compliant patients continue to thrive.
About the Director

These include the prestigious CINE SPECIAL JURY AWARD for Best Broadcast Historical Program of 2003, network or cable, awarded for his pilot episode of the series, THE COLOR OF WAR. Most recently Lee wrote SEVEN SIGNS OF THE APOCALYPSE, a two-hour documentary special for the History Channel. Previously, he was Executive Producer and head writer of the seven-hour series SHOWDOWN: AIR COMBAT for the Discovery Military Channel. Lee was the Series Producer of the 17-hour THE COLOR OF WAR series and the 35-hour THE GREAT SHIPS series for the History Channel. He wrote, produced and directed the 90-minute special THE CRASH OF FLIGHT 191 for the History Channel, and co-wrote THE LONG MARCH, a two-hour special for History International. Lee also wrote or produced 11 episodes of the Biography series for A&E, including programs on MICHELANGELO, GEORGE WASHINGTON and BENJAMIN FRANKLIN. In the realm of fiction, Lee co-wrote the screen story Ascent in the television drama series THE DEAD ZONE for the USA Television Network. Brian Wendel, Creator and Executive Producer: Brian Wendel had a long-time interest in nutrition and health. In the summer of 2008, he read The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell and realized that the scientific case that a whole foods plant-based diet could prevent - and even reverse - disease was greater than he had ever imagined. This concept deserved a "seat at the table" in the national discussion. Brian decided the most effective way to bring this message to a broad audience was by feature film. His vision for the film was that it be based on the science - and at the same time, provide a moving experience by exploring personal stories and historical elements. Brian recruited a veteran award-winning production team and spent nearly two years producing FORKS OVER KNIVES, his first feature film.

Great film discusses health and the truth behind nutrition.
Very informative. It provided my husband with all the logical and scientific answers he needed in order to change his dietary habits. I do not eat any animal products and started this because of the ways in which animals are treated, however I noticed a change in how I was feeling. I could not explain it to my husband in the detailed, specific way he was needing in order to understand, but this movie did it for him. And it made me more confident in my decision to become a vegan. We really enjoyed how the documentary showed individuals from different socioeconomic classes practicing a plant-based, animal-free diet and the effects it had on their health and life. This proved that this lifestyle is possible for anyone to adopt. If you have not made the decision to reduce the amount of animal product in your diet, do not let that discourage you from watching this film. There is plenty of useful information mentioned that applies to meat-eaters, vegans and all in between. Be open minded and take what you will from this documentary. Hopefully you will be inspired like my family was.PS: There is not a lot of footage about animal cruelty in this documentary. As I mentioned, the reason I first became a vegan was due to animal rights, but I am not the type of person who can sit and watch a video that show graphic images. I know what happens, I don't ignore it, but I cannot comfortably sit and watch it. So for those of you like me, rest assured you'll be able to get through this documentary.

Life-saving Information
I am not a vegetarian or vegan, but I am extremely interested in health — especially MY health. This documentary provided valuable information that has improved the quality of my life and will probably extend the quantity of my life. The film does not use in-your-face scare tactics. It doesn’t introduce a fad diet. It doesn’t try to sell health products. It doesn’t say you’ll die if you don’t become a vegan. It doesn’t push a political, moral or ethical agenda. It’s not an emotional plea.So what’s in this film? Information. Lots of it. The film presents research — from notable doctors and institutions — spanning decades and continents. It provides personal testimonials. It gives the viewer something to ponder, possibly re-evaluating lifestyle choices.

Give This Movie to Everyone You Love
Information worth ten stars. If you watch only one documentary on nutrition, human health, and longevity, this is the one to choose. It will open your eyes, change your mind, and probably save your life. The Forks Over Knives principles are scientifically proven. No fads, gimmicks, or twisted statistics. You're never too old to improve your health. Don't wait a minute longer!I buy a package of four DVDs every couple of years because borrowers want to keep them and fail to return them. So far, I have loaned this movie to 43 people, and one-third have changed their dietary habits in order to avoid all of the most prevalent chronic diseases in contemporary Western cultures.

The healthiest way to live!
Since quitting smoking 6 months ago I have put on 35-40lbs and have discovered lots of congestion and allergies. I would tell others than when I was drinking milk, eating cheese or any dairy or meat I felt horrendous and very congested. I kept talking with others who would say "have you watched Forks over Knives" or "have you thought about going to a plant based diet" I finally watched the movie tonight and before I did so I went and bought the companion book. I am on board to start this tomorrow. I just heard of a friend who died a couple of days ago. His diet was horrendous with lots of meat, sugar and dairy. As he was only about 8 years older than me and I'm going to be 57 next week, it's time to switch my diet. This was a great movie that gave me tons of wonderful information. It also made me think about how we treat animals, although the movie did not focus on that aspect. It's crazy how much money and lives could be saved by changing our diet and cutting out those unnecessary foods talked about in this movie. I wonder if in 100 years when someone looks back on this movie they will wonder what took us so long to discover a healthy way to live.

Changed my life
I rented this movie back in August, and now, nearly 8 months later, I am quite a bit lighter and feeling much better. I never thought I could ditch dairy and eggs, especially eggs. I always knew I could go vegetarian, but vegan? No! Not for me, I thought. But this film lays out the facts and makes it abundantly clear for the need to increase all the plant-based foods in your life. Also, I have tried so many methods to lose weight. Low fat in the 80s and 90s, Atkins in the early 2000s, and a few years ago, keto. I lost and regained weight with all of them because the science would get fuzzy on each of them and the food gets boring. This kind of rips you away from the whole mindset, into the world of unprocessed plant-based eating, good for your health, kind to animals and much better for the environment. There is a wonderful Forks Over Knives support group on Facebook, which has helped me understand how to cook this way, minimizes salt, ditches oil completely (yes! you can do it!) and limits sugar to unprocessed vegan sources, like dates and maple syrup. The benefits, for me, have occured really fast. Most notably, less arthritis pain and wheezing. Fewer headaches and just a feeling of mobility, which had been on a downward trend. Even if you don't plan to eat this way, it's worth watching this film just to learn what the Forks Over Knives movement is all about.

THIS WAY OF EATING HELPS WITH A VARIETY OF PHYSICAL ISSUES
This popular DVD makes a great case for "Whole Foods, Plant-Based" eating. Eating like this every single day for the rest of your life might be a bit of a test, but if you are diabetic, obese, or suffer from heart problems, this might very well be a least one answer to your immediate health challenges. And the two gentlemen who developed this are not some tree-hugging quacks but highly respected leaders in heart surgery and nutritional science, respectively.Definitely worth viewing. . . A friend of mine who is diabetic decreased her A1C indicator from 400 to 120 by following the eating philosophy in the DVD.

Everyone Should Watch This!!!
I had heard of Forks Over Knives for a while. I have watch similar kind of documentaries such as Fed Up, Food Inc, Hungry for Change, Cowspiracy etc. I urge everyone to watch this DVD. I mean every person that eats food. It effects every single person. We are constantly bombarded with adverts from the food industry so much so, we hardly even notice it. I was sick of being sick and feeling unhealthy and I was sick of feeling confused with conflicting diet advice. This DVD explains how consuming certain foods can have a devastating effect on one's health. Now I eat a plant-based diet I can see through the industry BS they force down our throats through aggressive advertising and biased studies published in mainstream media.Time to get smart, people, don't let these bad foods make you ill and greedy people very rich off your ignorance.Watch this and stop feeling like a helpless victim.

Everyone should watch this at least once
This film is so good you will want to make sure everyone you care about watches it. Every parent must watch this!It will certainly educate you on how your diet directly effects you health. This is made simple as it breaks all the science of it all down so anyone can understand it. It uses visuals as well as the person explaining what is happening. They also use studies and reference these correctly. So you can be reassured that the information you are receiving from this film is accurate. This film will really open you eyes and most likely change your life forever. This film can be watched again and again. In fact, this the second copy I have bought as I lent my other one out and it is still doing the rounds amongst my family in over a year's time.

An alternative to animal- based foods
This film makes the disturbing connection between animal based foods and processed foods and degenerative diseases like heart conditions, Type 2 diabetes and possibly some forms of cancer. It looks at the importance of eating plant-based foods. In effect it backs up documentaries like "Super Size Me" . We have always known the connections between our diet and our health, but this documentary drives the point home.

Thought provoking investigation into dietary health
A fascinating look at the history of nutrition and major surgery that, through selected case studies and interviews, concludes that many health benefits can come from whole food plant-based diets. Specifically, there is a heart surgeon who advocates a vegan diet to avoid heart disease and the son of a dairy farmer who claims that our dairy intake is responsible for brittle bones. Great science graphics and amazing life stories make this compelling viewing.

This brilliant documentary lays out the scientific evidence for this very ...
This should have been made 10 years ago. It has been known for years that a whole food plant based diet is the natural diet for humans and that eating animal produce is the root cause of almost all the degenerative diseases found in populations consuming the typical western diet. This brilliant documentary lays out the scientific evidence for this very clearly in a very accessible and attention grabbing manner. For the sake of your health, and the health of the planet, watch this DVD. If you are already familiar with the whole food plant based diet then show this to as many friends and family members as you can, for the sake of THEIR health

We have always known the connections between our diet and our health, but this documentary drives the point home."},{"@type":"Review","reviewRating":{"@type":"Rating","ratingValue":"5.0"},"author":{"@type":"Person","name":"A***R"},"datePublished":"Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 6, 2016","name":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Thought provoking investigation into dietary health\n \n","reviewBody":"A fascinating look at the history of nutrition and major surgery that, through selected case studies and interviews, concludes that many health benefits can come from whole food plant-based diets. Specifically, there is a heart surgeon who advocates a vegan diet to avoid heart disease and the son of a dairy farmer who claims that our dairy intake is responsible for brittle bones. Great science graphics and amazing life stories make this compelling viewing."},{"@type":"Review","reviewRating":{"@type":"Rating","ratingValue":"5.0"},"author":{"@type":"Person","name":"J***Y"},"datePublished":"Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 8, 2014","name":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n This brilliant documentary lays out the scientific evidence for this very ...\n \n","reviewBody":"This should have been made 10 years ago. It has been known for years that a whole food plant based diet is the natural diet for humans and that eating animal produce is the root cause of almost all the degenerative diseases found in populations consuming the typical western diet. This brilliant documentary lays out the scientific evidence for this very clearly in a very accessible and attention grabbing manner. For the sake of your health, and the health of the planet, watch this DVD. If you are already familiar with the whole food plant based diet then show this to as many friends and family members as you can, for the sake of THEIR health"}],"aggregateRating":{"@type":"AggregateRating","ratingValue":5,"bestRating":5,"ratingCount":11}}
