Studio Secrets: Millinery

It was very informative. I happen to be a fan of making hats and recently started making Berets. I decided I needed to include some new styles in my craft. It must be a trait I must have inherited from my Maternal Grandmother because she was a Milliner in England before marrying an American and moving to America.

THIS BOOK IS TOTALLY AWSOME !!!!!!!!. I HAVE BEEN UNEXPECTEDLY SUPRIZED WITH A LONG LASTING GIFT.I have always had an interest in hatmaking. Also, I took an accessories course at the Apparel Design & Merchandising Department, at the College of Alameda, CA which entailed a course in Millinery. Since then I have loved millinery with a passion but didn't do anything to practice or improve my skills other than collect books, while planning to use them some day. I cannot access the books I have already bought because they are stored away; so, I ordered some that I have not bought. So far, I have about six books on hatmaking. THIS BOOK EXCELS THEM ALL IN EVERY CATAGORY - PRECISE, STEP-BY-STEP, BEAUTIFUL, INSPIRATIONAL, INSTRUCTIONAL PHOTOGRAPHS & TEXT THROUGHOUT. THE MEASUREMENTS ARE GIVEN IN CENIMETERS AS WELL AS INCHES, GORGEOUS PROJECTS; A HISTORY OF THE ARTISTS AND HATMAKING INDUSTRY AND MUCH, MUCH MORE.I am making an independent statement about this book. I absolutely, have no contact or affilation with anyone responsible for the creation, production, marketing, etc. of this book.Also, I have recently ordered about 12 to 13 books from Amazon in one order. Each have been delivered promptly and in perfect condition. The service I have received has surpassed my expectations.

Good for ideas and had some good information.

Having just begun making hats within the past years, the information supports what I have learned in classroom and lab presentations. Some of the info has yet to be mastered by myself but the intricate components of hat making are easily understood. I would recommend this text be added to the Library of current and future milliners.

This book on Millinery is a good reference on my start to my new hobby it has an interesting history inside, step by step instructions for making a head piece and hats also amazing photo illustrations. As a beginner I find it very helpful.

Great Book and Loving it!

I received this book as a Christmas present. It had been on my wish list for over a year. I couldn't have been more disappointed. there were no secrets to hatmaking revealed. In fact there were very few instructions revealed. The author told how 4 hats were made. But the directions were so general and lacking in detail there was nothing to be gained by reading this book. Skip this one, there are far better books available

There have been a number of recent attempts of millinery 'manuals' released into the market. This book would have to be the poorest that I have seen. I am a qualified and experienced milliner, I often grab new millinery books to demonstrate alternatives to my students in addition to perking my interests.I found this book to be very messy and poorly detailed. You are directed to make fabric hats yet given very poor instructions. The styles you are shown are no more complex then a simple paper pattern thay you can purchase at a fabric shop, but with far less instructions. The poor details also include the photography, there are limited whole project photos. I don't doubt the authors skill as a milliner, it's just possible that her ability to translate those skills to text aren't as strong and she should have partnered with a better editor/ writer.I regret my purchase and wish I'd had the chance to physically see the book before I purchased it. It is a book that has been put in a box as I won't pass it onto anyone else. It really is that bad.

I used to hire this book from our libray ...then i couldnt find it one day when i went to hire so searched on line and found it ...

"Studio Geheimnisse" heißt es im Titel. Allerdings kommt es mir eher so vor, als ob der Autorin irgendwo mittendrin Zweifel gekommen sind, ob sie wirklich ihre echten Hutmachergeheimnisse an die Kollegen verraten will oder ob sie lieber ein Buch für Anfänger und Hobby-Milliner machen möchte.Und so ist etwas dabei herausgekommen, das eigentlich weder Fisch noch Fleisch ist.Für Anfänger sind die Modelle oft zu schwer, weil es erstens keinerlei Schnittmuster gibt- Die müsste man sich selbst erstellen- und zweitens einiges an teurem Werkzeug und Material wie Hutkopf, Zangen, Schablonen, Draht oder Spezielle Stoffe zur Versteifung braucht. Die Zwanziger-Jahre-Kappe beispielsweise ist in der Herstellung sehr aufwendig und für Menschen ohne Vorkenntnisse und die Spezialwerkzeuge eigentlich nicht zu machen.Wer nur gelegentlich mal einen hübschen Stoffhut fabrizieren möchte, ist demnach mit diesem Buch schlecht bedient.Auch was die Dekoration der Hüte betrifft, gibt es da nicht viel zu sehen. Die meisten Hüte werden nur mit einem Band oder einer einfachen Aplikation verziert und fertig. Die Autorin setzt mehr auf bunte Stoffe mit auffälligen Mustern als Dekoration. Blumen, Federn oder sonstigen Putz sucht man vergebens.An einer Stelle nennt die Autorin eine Bezugsquelle für Federgestecke und Seidenblumen- Nur leider hat die Traditionsfirma keinen Webshop, die Webseite ist nicht besonders informativ, was die Auswahl der Produkte betrifft und ich hatte auch den Eindruck, dass man dort lieber mit Profi-Hutmachern zusammenarbeitet, die gleich größere Mengen abnehmen.Die Auswahl der gezeigten Projekte ist ebenfalls nicht sehr groß und beinhaltet nur zehn Modelle, wobei zwei davon nur das Verändern schon fertig gekaufter Stücke beeinhalten.Ein Teil der Modelle sind auch etwas speziell- will sagen, sie sehen nur an bestimmten Frauentypen gut aus.Für die Profis wiederum ist das Buch eigentlich eher reizlos, denn was da an "Geheimnissen" letztlich verraten wird, ist eigentlich nur Hutmachergrundwissen, das jeder, der in der Branche arbeitet ohnehin schon hat.Was mir am Buch gefallen hat, sind die vielen stimmungsvollen Fotos aus dem Pariser Hutladen der Autorin und die mit Gemälden und alten Fotos bestückte Einleitung.Auch die Arbeitsanleitungen sind gut gemacht, mit Schritt-für-Schritt Fotoanleitungen. Englisch ist zwar Grundvoraussetzung, aber dank der guten Bilder geht es an vielen Stellen auch so.Das für mich beste Projekt ist eine Recycling-Kappe aus einem alten Jeanshemd. 帽子の本は初めて買いました。参考になる部分が多かったので良かったです。

大満足の１冊です！　私以前の書評を読んで買いましたが期待以上でした。英語の文章はまだ拾い読み程度ですが、写真もキレイでパラパラ見るだけで十分伝わって来るものを感じます。帽子作家の独創的なデザイン、素材選びからトリミング制作まであくまで自分のデザインに拘ってフォルム出しや細部に手を抜かない、という作家の精神さえ読み取れるようです。制作工程もステップ毎に丁寧に説明文と写真で載っています。私は帽体を習っていて今年で一応レッスン休むのですが、今後自分で作ってゆく上で、今一つあいまいな工程があったりするので、そんな時の参考書にと思ったのがこの本を選んだ最初の理由です。が、まだぼんやりしていますが、今後自分のアトリエを持つ場合の室内イメージや飾りつけの参考にもなりそうです。古い帽体の型や道具も色々登場して良い臨場感を醸し出しています！　帽子つくり中級以上の方はもとより、帽子好きの方々も　”帽子ってこうやって創られているんだ！”って感じで楽しんで頂けると思います。
