If you've purchased the main textbook, you're probably wondering if this workbook is also worth purchasing. I'd say go ahead and get it.Immediate points of interest for concerned buyers:1. Answers are included in the back, which makes this great for self-learners.2. There is no audio CD accompaniment (unfortunately).3. Feels exactly like the Genki series workbook.On this last point, I've a few mixed feelings. Yes, the exercises are a bit more challenging, and responses for some of the exercises require a bit of room for the student to fill in. However, I also feel like students at this level should be abandoning fill-in-the-blanks, short answers, and other, what I like to consider, "beginner workbook practices." That said, the layout and progression of difficulty work for me (I've only been studying Japanese for 7 months, so my retention rates are probably lower than someone who's been studying for three years with the same quantity of, but more spread out, exposure). The first sections of each chapter contain simple vocabulary and grammar practices, and then move onto more complicated exercises consisting of short essays and the like. The grammar and vocabulary practices give you set sentences in which to plug in phrases and expressions, while the harder sections are pretty much a free for all. This sort of progression helps students master vocabulary and grammar before using everything together.If you want to know more about the main textbook, feel free to check out my review on that book's page. This is from the same series as Genki, and I have always been fond of the Genki books. I needed this book to make progress with my Japanese, I think this workbook and textbook will be helpful for students of Japanese, even if they study the language by themselves. The book is not too dry and boring and it keeps you going. I love it.

活動型授業にすることで学生達の思考力や意見を発表する力が鍛えられる。ただ、練習問題の解答が語彙・文法問題のみで重要表現の文作りや読解の内容確認の解答がないため使いにくいかもしれない。
