Really spooky
I went in with low expectations (mostly as a very jaded horror fan), and expected this to be the normal run of the mill, jump scare based, loud noise reliant slasher pic but I thoroughly enjoyed this and found it genuinely frightening! It's super creepy, well acted, fresh and overall good fun. There were moments watching this where I thought I heard something upstairs, or my dog would stare at the wall, and I got all creeped out. It was honestly one of maybe a handful of movies that I would recommend to my fellow jaded horror fans. Glad I purchased it on a review from YouTube (thanks George!)

Great found footage movie
Really enjoyed this movie and the sequels. Found footage was getting a bit tired but this movie is a nice take on the genre. Will be a Halloween favourite.

This horror film is actually scary.
Found footage can often be boring, but if you keep your eyes on the screen, you're in for a treat.

Superb found footage horror.
Superb found footage film , over the 3 films the story really hangs together. Not to be missed.

Don't hate me because I'm found footage
Really good fun to be had here in a film that came to the Found Footage genre a bit late, but managed to keep it interesting. There are some good jump scares, but also a well-rendered increasing tension to the film that keeps your attention. I've been increasingly dismissive of the horror genre despite the fact that I keep watching it, and I guess it's little unexpected gems like this that keep me trying to find the decent films. I think one thing that keeps the found footage format interesting is switching it up a bit with multiple sources; in this case, making the film a documentary about found footage, and also including newsreel footage, interviews with characters, and so on. It's a good approach, at least for me - I'll admit I'm a sucker for the mock documentary format. One thing I would say is that the film did suffer a bit from editing - at one point (this isn't really a spoiler) you can't help but wonder why the people have stuck around the way they have. You get that point in most horror movies, but particularly in this one. Alas, a quick search found a few posts from someone involved in the film who explains that the reasons for this were almost entirely edited out for reasons of time. Something of a gap, quite frankly.Anyway, that aside, yes it's a bit low budget, no it's not wildly groundbreaking, but it does the found footage thing surprisingly well - worth a look!

One of the creepier found footage movies
**** Slight spoilers ****Hell House LLC (Limited Liability Company) purports to show what really happened when the attempts of four young entrepreneurs to create a money-making haunted hotel theme park awoke something nasty, resulting in multiple deaths. The disaster is shown first, in just the broadest terms, with lots of screaming and a stampede of panicking guests. Then, in true found-footage style, we get to see the unsettling events leading up to this point. This is the main premise of the movie and features the team fitting out the creepy hotel with theatrical horror props, including life-sized mannequins of zombies and killer clowns. These appear to take on a life of their own, when the camera isn't on them. At first just subtly - a slightly turned head, to completely changing location. This includes a delightfully creepy strobe sequence, which was very well constructed and genuinely unsettling. My only critiscism was that the Macguffin of the moving dummies started to lose its shock value after you've seen it happen maybe a dozen times. This idea is perhaps a little sparse to stretch out to 90 minutes.Things do gather pace in the later stages though and the ending, which I won't spoil, has an effective make-you-jump moment.Overall, Hell House LLC is one of the more stylish additions to the rather over-subscribed found-footage genre and horror fans shouldn't be disappointed.

Best watched without expectations
The premise behind the film - a small company 'specialising' in the haunted house tour business experiences a haunting in an abandoned hotel is a decent one; good even. To make it believable requires a good back story, sympathetic characters, and solid camera work. Having checked out the reviews after the film, I was a bit surprised at both the top rated and most critical. As far as the 'found footage' genre goes, this one has worked well enough on a low budget. Interestingly enough, it was the efforts of the much maligned Hell House crew member, Paul, that generated for me, the most tension and one of the best hiding-from-the-bogeyman scene since vomit girl in the Sixth Sense. Having said that, I didn't truly jump. Mostly having anticipated what would happen next and a lack of believability with some of those interviewed. The makers of Hell House fell into a few classic traps that should have been caught. That they didn't for whatever reason was a bit lazy. I was going to criticise the use of half naked women as a cheap thrill, but in the illogical, arguing the point of vulnerability, it sort of worked. The most critical reviews are harsh, most without even going into why they didn't like it. Watch this film blind, without expectations and you should find it rates better than most.
