HOW HAMMER DID IT IN 1990! (still can't touch this!)
As I watched this film (or is it an extended video?), I had to remind myself that at the time this was released, MC Hammer was the best seller rapper of all time. However, a lot of things have changed since 1990.This "movie" is actually five of Hammer's better known videos loosely tied together with a thin plot. The production seems a little amateurish by today's standards. For example, there is no real dialogue; just too many guys trying to be "street" with a lot of "hey, man" and "yo, man". What little acting that is presented is Hammer acting as a preacher in a scene that is painfully way too long. It's almost as if they needed more time to round up to 60 minutes. Some intentional and elaborative dialog might have made the segues between videos a little more coherent. As it is, there's really no culminating climax or conclusion to the "story". Related, the cutting edge music production of the time seems dated and tame. With all that said, one thing that is still enjoyable and impressive is Hammer's dancing. That man could move!! Another timeless credit, Hammer always wanted to maintained a positive image and be a role model as a responsible and successful African American entrepreneur. This is a fun view to see how things used to be "back in the day".
