Cannot get it open to remove rat
Thanks to those who replied with helpful information. I was able to open the trap and remove the rat by hitting it with a rubber mallet in the direction for opening it. With a lot of effort I reset the trap and the other two. When I checked them after a few hours, two traps were flashing blue. No animal, and bait was still there. Someone said just tip the trap up to dump the rat. That worked with the prior models from this company but now there is a transparent barrier that keeps the animal in. That feature can be used for capturing the animals alive without using the electronicsFrom earlier:Bought 3 that arrived today. I installed one. It caught a ralit right away and I would give it 5 stars if I could open the trap to dispose of the rat. The dead rat moves freely within the trap so it is not caught on anything. Trying to follow directions. Maybe I just don't have enough strength but I will have to toss the whole thing. I certainly would not return the trap with a dead animal.Living in rural desert foothills in an old house, mice and rats and even rattlesnakes makes themselves into the garage and house. I have used other electronic traps successfully.

A great product, drawn first blood on the first night the zapper arrived.
The product definitely works(as a trapper or as a zapper). The zapper landed its first kill last night, which is the first night it arrived. Long story short, I initially wanted to use zap the little sucker but was concerned the cable might limit the location/efficiency. So I unplugged the cable and used the product as a trapper. Last night, I put in some vitamin gummy as bait(if you ask why vit gummy, because its very aromatic). This morning, my sweet ol' mom woke up before me and discovered the unplugged trapper with its first patron inside. Then in goes the plug, and and when I went to inspect the trapper, dear mother complained to me on how careless I was to not plug in the zapper.... Well, that's how I discovered the first victim of the zapper. Definitely a great start, hopefully I wont find any more of the small pellets of surprises that the patrons leaves around the kitchen. After tinkering around with the zapper a bit, I find using the adapter is probably the easiest way to go. Btw, the zapper DOES NOT comes with batteries. The battery cover is sealed pretty tightly, it took me a while to figure out on how to open it and a bit of courage to actually open it. The lever mechanism very stiff, and you really have to put your strength behind your thumbs to make it budge. The inconvenient part is the lever has no instructions, so I didn't know which way to apply force to open the darn cover.Overall, great product.

Won't catch small rodents
I baited my trap with delicious knowing that my little mouse friend would not be able to resist. I set the trap along the wall in my office where I saw the mouse the other day. As I was working away I heard a rustle in the trap and as soon as I looked over I saw the little fella trotting triumphantly out of the trap with a huge almond in its mouth. I have caught other mice with this trap, but apparently this guy is too small to set the sensors. Didn't even trip the door to close. Sucks that I have to fatten him up before I can kill him. I mean, it's not like he's a turkey or a pig. I'm going to get some other traps for the small guys in hopes that they don't do a ton of damage during the fattening up period!

It got me a rat but didn't eliminate it.
I have two in my attic I noticed light was blinking little faster than normal so I checked it out there was a live mouse. The trap has batteries and is plugged in. I was stumped and wondered why it didn't work the way it is set up to work so I just turned it off then back on witch then served its purpose RIP. Wish it would have just worked 1st time. Now I cleaned out trap (wasn't really messy) put it back up and now the trap just keeps automatically getting tripped. you can just hear the traps electricity going through it. so I ended up just putting it away and ill see what I can do later.BTW I just use dry dog food.

It works with the right bait
First time using this trap. I was ready to give up after two weeks of not catching anything. Till I decided to try adding more and different baits. I was using a soda cap of peanut butter, but no rat/mouse would go in. I added in dried peanuts as a trail into the trap. Then another trail of dry dog food (probably overkill), but last night finally got a rat.Lesson learned, more baits to lead them into the trap.Update 09/2021 - so far caught 7 large rats and 1 small mouse. I found small dry dog food works very well. Put some in the trap, and leave a trail. Rats will eat the trail, some time it takes a night or two, but eventually they get used to it and go in the trap.

So far it catches them, but no Zapping.
Bought 4 rechargeable D batteries and a charger, made sure I wore gloves when handling the trap so that the critters don't smell my skin oils. Caught a mouse, but no Zapping. The Mouse was alive inside with the nuts I put inside as bait. I ended up taking the mouse to the local park and letting him go, ran off in a hurry. I am hoping the Zapping actually works, if not a waste of $$ on the batteries and charger.

Crazy effective
We own a house that was built in -1831. Needless to say, old houses invite rodents, and we have mice. See them once in a while, so I know they are here. Purchased this trap on the advice of a co-worker. First trap caught a mouse night #1, but would not reset after. The second trap has caught 5 mice in the last 48 hours (just reloaded it).I don’t usually buy the good reviews, but this thing works like a champ. My wife has suggested buying a second one.On a side not, my wife has to eat gluten free, and we noticed that the mice gravitate toward the GF stuff, so we have been baiting this thing with gluten free bread which seems to be mice cocaine.
