Great game
This is a great game at a great price (£11). It’s relatively easy to learn and play with a variety of choices within the gameplay depending on character or your approach to building assets and accruing points. Once familiar with the rules etc a game will take you around a hour. Very pleased with it.

Not a bad little tableau builder
I haven't played the computer game that this is based off of, so I have no idea how it compares to that. I do however think this is a pretty fun, light tableau engine builder with enough interesting decisions to make it work. There are a couple of possible negatives. One is that combat really isnt anything other than a couple of victory points for the attacker and a loss of morale for the defender. No real combat, just place an action cube and that is the result. If people are looking for some sort of tactical wargame or combat they will be sorely disappointed.Secondly, other than the combat there really isn't any player interaction, you are pretty much playing solitaire, with the only annoyance of sorts is the fact that another player might have the card youa re hoping for. People looking for a high degree of interaction again will feel disappointed. However, those criticisms aside, the game plays quite fast. The rules are easy enough to grasp and individual turns work out very quickly making this a good little game. Not a great game, not even a great game of its kind, but I would use this happily to introduce people to the idea of engine builders or tableau builders.

Yes!
Having played the pc game since it conception from Master of Orion 1 back in the day with my father, this was a perfect stocking filler for him (who still plays the latest version of the pc game everyday, knocking on for 90!)

Really great game
Me and my friends play this quite often and we play a lot of games. Its a complete bargain for how much entertainment we get out of it.

Game is great. Copy was damaged
The game itself is awesome, quick simple enough but with enough strategy to make it a little ‘thinly’. My copy however was described as used like-new. It wasn’t however it was the opposite, new and sealed still, but damaged. Wasn’t impressed. Shame as the game itself is very good.

Fun to play easy to learn.
Amazing board game simple to learn easy to play. The idea is to accumulate as many victory points as possible before the game ends who ever has the most at the end wins. Lots of fun I play eclipse too which has tiles an ships but although this is just card based with different coloured cubes it's almost as much if not more in it's own way.Unfortunately our copy came with a misprint the pictures of the darlok an meklar races were on the wrong race cards

Great game for the price
Plays nice and quick with strategy light enough to be accessible, but deep enough to make interesting choices.Lots of replay value with fun combos to discover!I've never played the video game this is based on, but didn't feel like I was missing out on anything.

Great game that balances strategy and speed
What sold me on this game was a review saying it's FAST without throwing away satisfying strategy. They were right. The closest thing I can think of is a tableau game like Race for the Galaxy (card game) combined with the theme of Master of Orion (video game). Race for the galaxy is a favorite of mine, and this game builds on that engine-builder playstyle nicely. I like the abilities of all the different races except Human, who needs something more than bonus starting resources (we chose to give humans a +1 to morale restoration when they use propaganda). Great theming, good quality of art, good rules, good balance.Speed: The game moves at a nice pace, more like a Race for the Galaxy game instead of the Master of Orion video game. There's a hard limit on how long the game goes, so you can't get stuck waiting forever, and that puts pressure on your strategy that you can try to predict, but can't be fully sure of what opponents will do. There's enough time to develop and pursue a strategy, but not to take your time. Once you know how to play, you'll be done in half an hour to an hour.Strategy: I like the racial abilities and how they combine with your consultants and strategies. The different actions are easy to understand but offer a lot of depth. Good (and devious) character interaction too -- unlike some games, you interact with other players to affect their tableau enough to be concerned by it. I enjoy building up my engine and racing to get things to click into place before the game's end is triggered. I *really* like how you have to manage your income and resources carefully since it affects your morale and number of actions next round. Some races even like to be at a certain productivity level. When considering a card, you're thinking as much about next round as this one (how much does this drop my resources and affect next round; what income does it give me; do I need the ability/points; etc), and that's great for strategy.Ease of learning: This game is easier to understand than Race for the Galaxy, 7 Wonders, and others that are often accused of relying on iconography too much, since everything is summarized on the play mat quite nicely and the actions and cards are easy to understand. The different races are easy to pick up and understand, often modifying or building on an existing rule, and whatever is different is highlighted in yellow in your turn order to make sure you notice and remember it. The rulebook is straight-forward, and once you get what's going on, it clicks. I recommend doing a round or two of practice, and then restarting the game for real. This is one of our favorite games, and I'm surprised at how often we bring it back to the table! It helps that we can get a satisfying strategy experience without multiple hours of investment.
