GREAT new singer picks up the torch from Sinatra & Darin
When Frank Sinatra died in 1998 a question was: would the death of the man considered by many to be the 20th century's Greatest Singer signal the end of his kind of music? Would it vanish because there weren't enough people born after his generation to carry on his painstakingly developed style of music? Now we have the answer: a resounding NO. In recent years, talented non-Sinatra generation singers such as Michael Civeska, Peter Cincotti, Debbie Campbell, Steve Tyrell, kd Lang (especially in her CD with Tony Bennett) ...and now Michael Buble...have proven they learned The Old Master's vocal lessons quite well. His kind of music may be mostly banished from mass entertainment TV and radio airwaves...but it is indeed alive and QUITE well, and called "classic pop." It thrives in concerts, some clubs and a host of new CDs. Enter Buble, a 28-year-old Canadian admittedly (and clearly) heavily influenced by Bobby Darin and, to a lesser degree, by Sinatra. In this, his first highly hyped CD that is coupled with a critically acclaimed concert tour (I have been in several cities where he has been and seen the rave reviews) he shows that he mastered one of Darin's key qualities: the ability to put his own stamp on classic pop music while also drawing on more contemporary tunes and genres. There isn't a bad song on this CD, although....like with Darin....Buble seems to soar on classic pop songs and not-quite-soar as high on newer ones adapted to his more traditional style. His vocal style is highly pleasing, ranging from soft-romantic, to near-rock, to a virtual phrase-by-phrase duplication of Sinatra, depending on the song. He has a nice voice and knows how to use it. Orchestrations are state-of-the-art, providing a perfect backdrop for each vocal.. Best songs here include a new twist on Peggy Lee's "Fever," a rousing Sinatra-style "For Once In My Life" (sounds in parts like the original arrangement), a superb rendition of Sinatra's "The Summer Wind" (the arrangement again sounding at times like the original while Buble uses his own style), "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," wonderful renditions of "Sway" and "The Way You Look Tonight" -- and his crowning achievement, a near phrase-by-phrase duplication of Sinatra's "Come Fly With Me," which retains every single ounce of youthful pizzazz and optimism that marked Sinatra's original. It concludes with a touching, bittersweet rendition of his vocal idol Darin's "That's All." Darin must be smiling. You know Buble is a major talent when his CD's executive producer is the legendary Paul Sands and it's on the Reprise label (founded by Sinatra and later bought by Warner Bros.). Buble clearly has a huge future ahead of him. He not only has picked up the torch from Sinatra and the ill-fated Darin but he has successfully used some of their techniquesin some of the more contemporary songs on this CD. Some of those don't work as well as the classic songs -- but everything here definitely WORKS. We'll be seeing -- and hearing -- a lot from Buble in the future.

A Promising New Singer With A Fabulous Voice
One morning on the way to work, I was tuned in to a radio Jazz station and "Moondance" was playing. I said to myself: Oh my what a voice! It couldn't be Harry Connick Jr, couldn't be Michael Feinstein, couldn't be Bobby Caldwell, definitely not Frank Sinatra or Mel Torme! Who is this singer? After the song the DJ said: "You just heard "Moondance" by Michael Bublé, pronounced as (Boo-blay) from his self-titled CD." I've never heard of him so I checked him out at Amazon and ordered the CD. And to my surprise, I found myself not only listening to it but singing along as well. Simply put, I enjoyed and loved it.It has great selection of songs from the initial track "Fever," followed by one of my favorites, "Moondance" (makes you sing along & snap your fingers). Listening to the slower ones such as "Kissing A Fool," "The Way You Look Tonight," "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" and "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" makes you want to fall in love again! His remarkable renditions of "Come Fly With Me" and "Summer Wind" are almost like the legendary Francis Albert Sinatra's style. "For Once In My Life" and one of the Bee Gees hit songs, "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?" are equally delightful."I can still feel the breezeThat rustles through the treesAnd misty memories of days gone byWe could never see tomorrowNo one said a word about the sorrow"If you're in the mood for dancing and swinging and want to be cool and hip, then dance to the tune of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" where he sings the refrain with so much flair and style. Likewise, the danceable beat of "Sway" will make you get up and dance to the rhythm. The last track, "That's All," is one of my all-time favorites that he interprets with heartfelt emotion. Hopefully, it's not "that's all" for this young and promising new singer with a fabulous voice and a great sense of style. He deserves a pat on the back. Congratulations Michael Bublé for a wonderful debut album! I look forward to your follow-up album. This recording is simply superb and it will be a welcome addition to your collection. Wholeheartedly recommended!

Great High Points, Terrible Low Points
I'm a new fan of Michael Buble's thanks to this CD, but there's good news and bad news. The good news: he has a phenomenal voice! His singing is effortless and brings to mind old masters like Dean Martin who never broke a sweat when he sang because he had boundless talent and a voice as smooth and rich as chocolate. The bad news: some of the arrangements on this CD are like a bad karaoke show.Songs like Kissing a Fool and Someone Who Loves Me are FANTASTIC! Others, like Put Your Head on My Shoulder and That's All, are just downright unbearable to listen to. The arrangement is so slow that you'll fall asleep listening to them...and not in a good way. They drag on and on, apparently to showcase his talent, but in actuality, he needs no such gimmicks -- this kid can sing. He's got chops. Let him "do his thing" and he'll blow you away. Fans of Josh Groban will leave him in droves upon hearing Michael Buble.I'll give this CD 4 stars just for the sheer talent of this guy -- he just needs the right material. Here's hoping he gets it soon!
