Weatherproof Duffel | Pelican Mobile Protect Duffel - MPD100 (100 Liter)

After watching ten or twenty videos and reading a bunch more reviews on various travel bags, I spent the money and bought the Pelican MPD100 Mobile Protect Duffel Bag. It’s very roomy, and appears to be as-tough as Pelican’s legendary molded cases, but in a 1000D (denier/fabric density) material. Like a fine-quality gun case, right?The sewing and finishes are top quality, as are the YKK zippers. Zippers are frequently the measure of a bag’s quality. Repeated duty cycles, abuse and dirt take their toll, and in the case of long zippers, render a bag virtually useless when they break. No reasonable way to repair. The MPD100’s zipper’ pulls (tab things) are termed “loop and hook pulls”, as each has a corresponding loop to hook pulls to, reducing accidental damage and outright abuse. I had a huge-ass Blackwater duffle, a real favorite, that had like a 72” zipper on it. Room for a long gun, insulated coveralls and still room for a ton more gear. Loved it, but the pull broke and no one could fix it, including the manufacturer. All because the zipper pull snagged and twisted off. Pelican’s engineers and designers got that issue under control.The MPD-100 has just the right number of pockets, a couple inside and a couple outside, to stow toiletries and frequently accessed gear. Not so many that small items get list between uses. Just right.The straps are really sturdy as are the fasteners. Again, like a fine soft-side gun case. Like Bob Allen Company used to make. The straps don’t come off, which for me ends up being a good thing so I done misplace them. The cinch-straps that ride over the zippered opening of the bag are solid, and make a satisfying “click” when fastened. You know you aren’t going to lose your stuffing due to side-to-side stress from over-filling the bag. The straps prolong the life of the lengthwise main zipper, again, then Achilles heel of soft-side bags.Not that I really care a lot about appearance (but I do), the MPD-100 looks really sharp all filled up. It arrives in a really compact shipping bag, but unfolds into a really cool duffel bag. The underside has an attractive shimmer finish including the Pelican logo applied. Again, not flashy, but seriously cool.So coming in at USD $200, this may or may-not be your duffel bag. I’m thinking this is like my third or fourth piece of luggage I’ve ever bought, and I’ve been pretty careful and did my research each time. I like Swiss Army luggage too, but the product line doesn’t include a duffel bag. I own five or six molded Pelican cases, zero problems with any of them. So you pay for quality in terms of functionality, ease of use and style. This 100 liter bags has it all - plus it’s totally water repellent. The zipper (yes) includes a cover running it’s length to keep direct moisture and damp out.5 start out of 5. Thanks!

Received my Pelican duffle bag and it's amazing! It's a really big bag and you can hold lots of equipment in it. I have two of these currently,black and green. The material is sturdy and it's really weatherproof. One of the bags I use for all my boxing gear: two sets of gloves, groin and kidney protector, mitts, shoes, extra clothes, and some other things, still having plenty of room. The other one I have taken on trips as a carry on. It works well and easy to stuff into the overhead compartment. Fully packed, you might be lucky to get it through as a carry on. It is kind of difficult to carry if you have too much in it. Does not have a laptop sleeve inside but I wasn't looking for that. Has two external pockets with secure loops and two internal mesh pockets. They are back to back by the way. Compression straps over top on both ends of the bag. A handle on each side of the bag.Overall, this bag is very functional and heavy duty bag for those that need to carry lots of equipment, tools, or clothes. I would suggest this bag for campers for the weatherproof aspect.

You can pack a lot in this bag. The material is very heavy and durable. One thing I wish it had zippers with loops for a luggage lock. I put a luggage lock through the straps on the zippers but it is not very secure.

Best bag on the market! You not be disappointed

First, to help with any confusion: Mobile Protect is just the name of the Pelican luggage line. Do they have laptop cases, yes. Is this one? Just how big is your laptop exactly...?Massive 100L bag with the features you want from the company that knows how to protect your stuff.Great for luggage that isn't some secret diplomatic pouch or camera lens. Good zippers, water resistant, and easily holds 2 weeks of clothing for most I would think?Best of all, you break it, they replace it for life. So yeah it's expensive, but one and done.

Just unboxed and it looks like a quality bag. Description is misleading, as there is no laptop sleeve. Pelican is a solid brand and I hope they will stand behind their lifetime warranty.

Great bag, just a bit bigger than I thought which isn’t a bad thing. Can pack whatever you want and be totally protected.

Perfet large and sturdy duffle. Lifetime warranty so you cant go wrong.
