This works overnight in my 55 gal freshwater tank
Put a slice of this in my power filter unit and overnight dropped the nitrates to zero, they were terribly high, up over 300 something before, blood red color with my test kit, and a dozen 15% water changes later still blood red, (hence the over 300 estimate). and, I normally don't do water changes like I should. You'll want some nitrates for live plants so I would guess, taking the pad out after you reach an acceptable level.

Worked Well just not much information on it
After putting some algea eaters in my take I was having a problem with Nitrates in my tank all the other values would be fine. Tried the Matrix and purigen and it lowered it slightly but not much. A few days after installing this the nitrates were reading in the normal range. I was unable to find much information on the product however. So far I have had it in my tank for over a month no issues. When I rinse off my filter I will also give it a good rinse and so far it is still working.Gave it four stars due to lack of instructions and no company info to get in contact with but works like a charm!

A must have for all aquariums!
I was having a problem with high ammonia and after many water changes and chemicals, it seemed to barely be budging. I found these and thought I’d give it a try. It’s been in my filter for 2 weeks now and my ammonia level has consistently stayed at zero! Super easy to use-just cut it to size and slide it in your filter. I am now using it in both of my aquariums. I will definitely be buying it again and will be using these for a long time.Note: It does state on the package it doesn’t help with a current ammonia spike but will help prevent spikes. I found this not to be true because within 24-36 hrs after placing it in my filter, my ammonia levels went from dangerously high to zero. Amazing stuff!!

Useful, but not ideal for me.
I currently own a Penguin Biowheel 150 HOB filter on my 29L aquarium. Refusing to use Marineland's inadequate cartridge filter, I purchased this to fit into the same slot as the cartridge. I managed to cut it just so right and in addition I added Seachem's Purigen and Matrix Carbon. This combination did prove to make my tank's water quality pristine, and the nitrogen cycle was kept in check. However, I've recently purchased a huge bag of filter fiber and noticed much better results for less money. You see, although the media pad is awesome, ultimately the shape I cut leaves an unusable amount behind. The Penguin 150 is unforgiving to media pads. Due to the amount of water flow, Acurel's pad eventually clogs sooner than I'd expected potentially leading to frequent and expensive replacements. Whereas Filter Floss/Fiber can be shaped to any sized compartment with ease and longevity polishing my water perfectly.I refuse to fully denounce Acurel's medi pad. It's just not appropriate for my specific setup. I rated 4 stars for it's great filtering ability...minus 1 star for it's lack of long term and diverse filter type utilization.Simply put, I've moved on to better!

This is a great product!
I've been trimming Accurel Ammonia Reducing pads to fit my aquarium filter for a couple of months. Prior to this, I had a constant problem with creeping ammonia levels in the fish tank. I have a 5-1/2 gallon tank with two Cory catfish and four fancy guppies. Since I've added the Accurel to my filter, there hasn't been a problem with the water balance. The ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates remain at -0-. The pads themselves are very easy to handle. They cut easily, but are quite stiff which makes it very easy to insert them into the slots in my filter. I've tried to contact Accurel to find out how long these pads are effective, but I believe their customer service department is a myth. I've had no response, and there seems to be no way to have a direct chat. In the meantime, I change it out once a week just to be on the safe side. In spite of their customer support scoring a zero, their reasonably priced product is well worth 5 stars and I recommend it.

Easy & Effective
I've been using the Accurel media pads in my Marina S20 filter for about a year. When cut to size, it easily slips into the filter's slots. It is stiff, which makes it very easy to slide into place. It also seems to have a tighter weave than other media pads, so it catches even the tiniest specs of debris. My filter also has Purigen, and,in the far section of the filter, I use an Accurel Ammonia Reducing pad, which I also cut to size. Since I use only a piece at a time, the large pad is cost-effective. The water in my 5-1/2 gallon fish tank remains perfectly clear and the fish remain healthy. Because of the stiffness and the density, I much prefer the Accurel white media to the standard blue and white style. Just be sure to rinse it well before placing it into your filter to get out any loose fibers that might be clinging to it.

Good Product
I'm using both the ammonia and nitrate pads in several filters. It's great since the pads can be cut to fit any size filter. They're changed every two weeks and, for me, are more convenient when used in internal filters. I have found the pads for ammonia are more effective than the nitrate.

No reduction in nitrates
I have a 125ltr tropical tank. Planted and heavily stocked. I test the water weekly and change 30-50%. Test routinely shows 20/30ppm of nitrate. I installed a double layer of this filter pad to the top tray of my Fluval 207. After a week , nitrate levels show the same as always, no reduction at all. I will carry on with this pad, as it looks like it will work ok as a purely mechanical filter but it has not worked as claimed. I will report back if the situation changes. Disappointed.Ok, pads have been in a few weeks now, still no reduction in nitrates, a bit higher if anything! May work for you but has been a waste of time and money for me.

So far So good.. It will definitely replace my carbon cartridge ...
Pro:So far So good.. It will definitely replace my carbon cartridge filters no problem.CON:I know its cut to fit, but pre-pressed cutting areas would be amazing! Hopefully the re-usability is there. Also my Aqueon Quiet filter 20 is funneling the water threw a little slow, but overall it works as expected!

Price fluctuates.
This product is good. However 2 days after I bought it the price was reduced 1/3. Disappointing.
