You had one job
I liked that it was a lightweight lock that I can easily carry with me on the bike and use to lock up outside a store so that I didn't have to worry about the bike for the two minutes that I was away, but after about three days of use the lock wouldn't unlock. Luckily I had a knife and leatherman on me to cut it open. I didn't buy this lock thinking that it would be a high security option , but I did hope that it would lock and unlock when I needed it to.

They ended up being too secure ... combination after a while wouldn't work
The combination part of the aperture went bad on both of the units I bought. The combination worked for awhile and then wouldn't. It happened two weeks after purchase on the first one and a month later on the second I called after the first one wouldn't accept the combination and asked if there was a "reset code" that I could use so I didn't have to cut the strap off and was told there was none. So, I had to cut it off with a bolt cutter. The other one I purchased was still operational, but that only lasted a month. So, I knew the drill ... get out the bolt cutters again.

Casual Security
Great café lock for use when you are in visual contact with the bike. It is lightweight, wraps around the seat post, and secures a tire. It is short in length and may not be long enough to attach to some stationary objects. Perfect for casual and low security applications. However, I bought four of these locks. The first two are fine. The third jammed while setting the combination and would not open. I returned it and ordered the fourth. That Z-lok could set the combination, but it opened on any combo after spinning the dials. There was no way to lock it. I tried setting the lock a few times, by pushing in the setting pin, setting a combo, and sliding the unlock slider to set it. It seemed to work, but opens up on any spin of the dials, on any number.Nice concept for a lock, but the locking mechanism seems prone to break down. The dealer accepted the returns without issue.

Three of Four Hiploks Died
I needed two of locks, but had to buy four as the first two Hiploks were defective out of the box. The first one was jammed closed, would not unlock. The second would not lock no matter what combination I set, it just pulled open. I took the two working Hiploks to Burning Man along with an Ottolock. First day out one of the Hiploks jammed shut on a bike. It would not open. I was prepared for this and brought a pair of wire cutters. I cut the band open, and threw both Hiploks away. Hiplok is complete junk. The OTTOLOCK (Stealth Black, 30 inch) worked like a charm, no problems with the dust and grit.

I like it - would buy again
Overall, I like this a lot and would buy it again. The combo lock was easy to set to your own custom number. The lock is not too difficult to roll up on itself to put in a bike jersey pocket. The numbers on the dials are pretty tiny and would be tough to see in dim or dark light or if your close-up vision was poor.

Broke
Got the lock and it looked great. Bent the end to put through the locking mechanism and the plastic coating broke rendering the lock useless. Never had a chance to use it because this happened just after removing from the packaging.

Unfortunate.
Saw this on an episode of GCN and bought one out of curiosity. Unfortunately, the lock broke before I even got to use it - it broke when I was setting the custom lock combination. After it broke, it would no longer lock. Luckily the seller that I purchased it from honored the return.Great idea for a light duty lock, but quality needs to improve.

Great Lightweight Lock for Burning Man
I bought four of these. Two had to be returned, hence the four stars. The combinations would not set. They were jammed right out of the box. (One was totally jammed and would not unlock, the other would open on any combination no matter what you set.) Other than that, I like this lightweight lock for situations where I can maintain visual contact with the bike, or places like Burning Man where you only need a deterrent. They are easy to carry and stow on the bike. I keep mine on the seat rails. Plus they are combos, so you won't lose the key. Note that the combo numbers are teeny and may be difficult for some to read without glasses and daylight.

Think of the worst lock in the world - This one is worse
Rubbish ... need super hero eyes to see the numbers. Doesn't unlock all the time. I ended up 70miles from home with the bike locked to a bench a Costa and it not opening even though the code was correct , so ended up having to force it open. If I knew how to sue this company for the damage caused to the paintwork trying to get this thing opened I would

Doubly useless - stops you using your bike while making it easy to steal.
These locks are junk. Both of the ones we bought seized so that we needed bolt cutters to get them off./On closer inspection it became clear that the die cast bodies are so soft they can be gouged out with a small screwdriver. In summary - good access to your bike for thieves and poor access for you.One more thing - Hiplok threw up so many hurdles to getting a refund that I just wrote the investment off.

Good idea, poor product design
I ordered this and the lock combination wouldnt set properly I followed the instructions properly but it remained locked and unusable so I sent it back. The replacement arrived and it worked! Only a week later during quich shop stop the code I chose was no longer working and my expensive bike was stuck, chained to a rack in Central London where I couldn't remove it. If I had left it overnight it would have surely been stolen. I used brute force to break the lock, took me 3hrs and a damaged hand and wrist.

Don't waste your time and money; the combination lock is unreliable.
I *loved* the idea of this lock! Couldn't wait for it to arrive! Sadly, on first usage I couldn't get it to unlock - turns out the internal combo lock itself had slipped, so it wasn't registering my numbers as the 'unlock code'. After half an hour of jiggling it etc I had to cut the lock off to retrieve my bike. Wire snips went through it like butter, but that's okay, I knew it wasn't a 'secure' lock and that suited me (bike left indoors at yoga studio in front of attended reception desk), but I was expecting it to let me have my bike back when I wanted it! Trying the keyed version now, hopefully that'll be be more reliable (though wish I didn't have to carry yet another key around with me). I would happily pay double this amount for a handy lightweight combination lock like this if Hiplock sorted their quality issue out...

Disappointed
Very disappointed with this lock. I followed the instructions, change the code to my personal number. Locked the lock and it would not unlock.Tried every possible number combination but would not unlock. Sent it back for a full refund. Pity as the Hiplok Z's work really well.
