Another Bargain From Barrie's Discs !!!

NOTICE IT SAYS 'SINGLES' AND NOT 'HITS' ...
After the Shads finally left EMI to join Polydor, their huge run of hits had largely dried up, and they had resorted to recording mainly covers with really nothing especially written for them. They even re-recorded all their old earlier hits, did a tour or two to support Cliff, but by and large they were still floundering. With the likes of John Hall (keyboards) and John Farrar (guitarand voals) joining the line up, they were tending to try even more vocals (yuk!), and this mottley collection contains several examples, but perhaps their best work with the new label was the somewhat evasive album 'Guardian Angel', from which a few titles appear here. It was only put out on vinyl and cassette before being deleted, so there was never an early CD version of it -- that is until a small label managed to acquire the master tapes and put out 'Guardian Angel' in 1984, but now long deleted and so much sought, except until 'Guardian Angel ... Plus' was put out by a small specialist label, the 'plus' bit being some extra Shads tracks from various sources. I personally prefer that release more than this mish mash put out by Crimson in 2001 , which even includes a medley of old hits re-recorded, but 'live'. I suppose it's OK for real Shad's collector's, but I wasn't prepared to spend a lot of money in an effort to catch up on just one or two tracks I didn't have, so sent for this cheap used copy from Magpie. Now I can hear Messrs May and Knopfler doing their thing to help Hank out a bit and that's probably the enlightening bit!!!
