Roxio Easy VHS to DVD [Old Version]

I received this software and USB video capture device on a Saturday. Installed the software, attached the device to the output from my video camera (to play tape in camera directly) and plugged it into my computer. Worked great right out the box. Didn't have to read any instructions, software very intuitive and easy to use. Created my first video and placed it on a DVD within 30 minutes of installing the software.Since delivery I have created multiple DVD's from VHS, VHS-C, Video Files and Mini DV Cassettes directly from the camera as well as from a VHS player. The software works great. My PC is a Windows 7 desktop with Duo Core 3Ghz processors, 8Gb Ram and 320 Gb Hdd. The only way I can see this software having issues on any PC is if the PC has minimal requirements and trouble handling all the video processing. I did not run into any of that. I was actually running the World of Warcraft online game while recording through the Roxio software and had no issues.I was skeptical at first after reading all the reviews, but usually save my opinion until I see it for myself and I am glad I did. This software/device was exactly what i needed and was looking for to trasnfer all of our family videos from VHS, VHS-C, Video Files and Mini DV cassettes to DVD in order to protect our memories.Don't be taken aback from all the reviews, make sure your PC has all the latest updates via Windows Update and take a chance, this software works well.JB in SC

This item was convenient and easy to setup and use, and it does work well. The software however, is pretty bare bones... it's enough to get the job done, but is limited in functionality and in some cases is more difficult to use than I'd like. Specifically, when editing a video for length or to remove a section, the trim points move frame-by-frame, which is nice if your near the stop point you want to trim, but moving it only a few seconds forward or back using the slider (instead of frame-by-frame) is difficult to do on longer videos (not granular enough) so your forced to "get close" then go frame-by-frame; and if you even just 5 seconds away, that's a lot of frames to click through! (So I wish it had a "go-to-time" feature or an adjustable movement rate).There are a variety of menus to choice from and they even have music, but you cannot edit buttons or button placement or really any aspect of them. Also I wish you could drag/drop to reorder the movies you are about to burn to disc (you can't capture one long movie and insert chapters... you have to capture each segment you want to be a chapter as a separate movie, then each movie becomes a chapter in the finished product).So basically, if you're looking for simple to set up and use, and aren't the type to want to set up transitions and custom music, etc. etc, then this is a fine solution. If you want more creative movie creation capability, you'll need to obtain some more advanced software than comes with this item.

From what I can tell, if this software / hardware package installs successfully onto your computer, it has the promise of being a very simple to use method for converting VHS tapes to a DVD format. If it does not install perfectly you will be on your own trying to figure out how to get it to work. This software did not install onto my computer so I cannot comment on how well it works.I am returning my ROXIO Easy VHS to DVD because after numerous removals and re-installations (the only remotely intelligent suggestion I was given from ROXIO tech support and online ROXIO Discussion forums)the program still does not work.The user forum "gurus" are not knowledgeable regarding ROXIO products and I personally found their responses to be useless, adolescent, and in the end arrogant. I installed a competitors product and it installed easily and is working flawlessly.Due to the lack of technical support for their products, I will probably never purchase another ROXIO product.For those of you that do....GOOD LUCK...because you will be on your own in your attempt to install a inferior product.

The Roxio Easy VHS to DVD software is very resource intense and requires way more than the specifications lead you to believe. I read with great interest evaluations that said it worked perfectly as described all the way to it was a piece of crap that never worked. I found that a 2.4 GHz P4 processor and 2gig of memory did not work. The audio was way out of sync and video was quite jerky. Operating this software in this configuration was far from satisfactory. Now the good news, running this Roxio software with 3 gig of memory and a dual core 2.0 GHz processor worked flawlessly. It worked as described in the documentation, with no issues. This tells you what won't work and what will. Probably some where between these machines is the breaking point but use this information as a guide. In all cases I was not running any other programs and I was copying the information to an external hard drive. The results did not change between Windows XP and Windows 7. Hope this information is of some use.

I transferred all my vhs tapes with ease

Software and video capture device worked great for about two weeks. Even though the capture USB device shows up in the device manager and shows all is OK, the Roxio Software with this product and Roxio Creator Pro 2010 do not recognize the USB device. Roxio support is no support. Many other purchasers of this product have the same problem and no solutions from Roxio.Do not buy this product.

There is a lot of room for improvement on this software. Following all instructions and using very well-maintained, powerful hardware I was faced with error messages after spending hours recording from tape. These error messages simply said there was a problem and then locked up the software. I had to "kill" the session with Task manager. The software needs progress monitoring and the ability to better understand the DVD in use. Not very happy with this purchase.Roxio Easy VHS To DVD
