A surprisingly good reference.
Many DIY books are heavier on glossy pictures than information. This surprisingly good manual has a wealth of both useful photographs and relevant information. The book is well organized, and relevant information is easy to find. The book doesn't shy away from complex topics that other DIY books shy away from and tell you to seek out a "licensed professional." While this is a good book, some of the topics presented are rather complex. You may have to make a pot of coffee and do a little studying before you are ready to being some of them. If you are willing to put in the time to digest the information presented, you should be successful.

Who needs an electrician?
Yep, with a little common sense, a person can be an "expert" in record time and eliminate the need for costly electricians invading your house when something breaks, needs to be replaced, needs to be rearranged or updated or whatever. This book provides an easy-to-understand guide to most any electrical problem faced by the home owner up to and including the installation of a new sub-panel ( I have now installed three of them on rennovations in my house and two of my children). Man, have I saved some serious cash doing my own repairs and contracting! The only thing I found it did not cover very well was the installation of three-way switches as you might find in the stairways of multi-level homes. No worries though as you can find this info on the internet and print it out as I did (I simply slipped the hard copy into my book for future reference).

Simple and detailed
Newbie that didn't know anything and this book is great to get jobs done. I've installed sub-panels to wire 3 ways. This book gave me the confidence to try; I would also go online and look for project to do and a lot of the time I would refer to the book for definitions or find a similar project and just expand my abilities.

Informational book.
I had this book for a while, and I used it a lot around the house. Lots of great, accurate, detailed information. I'd say it covers most easy to moderate electrical tasks you would have to perform as a homeowner.I must have let someone borrow my copy, because I wasn't able to find it, so I just found a used copy here, and it is exactly the same one I had. They have newer versions out that I'm sure cover some more current information, maybe Ethernet jacks etc, but I just wanted my old book back.Great wiring diagrams for 3 way and 4 way switches.

Save your money. Buy this book and do it yourself
I have an older version of this book, and this new one is great, a lot bigger and of course will have up to date building code written into it. Well worth the price, and gives you confidence to do it yourself. Sorry all you electricians, i know you hate these books. I have wired my above- stove microwave, dishwasher, upgraded to GFCI, and added a new appliance circuit at my counter tops, and corrected aome errors along the way. Fantastic book

A simple book for simple minds - like mine
This book was just what I needed. If your a dummy like me & you want something very simpole to do some basic home wiring, then this is the book for you too! None of that bull-crap electrician nonsense schematics - actual pitures & diagrams that show where each & every wire in your cable goes! Info on codes you need to follow (granted these are based on the 1999 codes & not the new 2008's). I have already wired a bathroom & a bedroom & added them to the breaker pannel - & hey no fire or even tripping the fuses!!!

Excellent book for the DIY homeowner.
I bought this book in preparation for renovating a 1960's era house. Most electrical conduit, circuitry, and wiring in the house is outdated - not grounded, without junction box, and generally old. The book provides clear, concise text and pictures to walk through both the theory of wiring and the practical application of said wiring. Further, the book is broken out into project categories, so it can be used as a step-by-step instruction manual for wiring virtually any home wiring project.
