"Last Letter Home' draws the reader in. Curl up and enter the warm world within the pages of the book!
Rachel Hore's "Last Letter Home" brought to life the characters, the places, and she moved seamlessly between time periods. She created an interesting warm novel so realistic I wish I could "look in" from time to time to see how they are faring! To create such a novel is quite an achievement. Ms. Hore's books are reliably excellent as is her attention to historical detail and her characters are three dimensional which causes the reader to "jump into" their English world. The only aspect I disliked was that the story ended as stories must do!

Rachel Hore's latest book
I normally love Rachel Hore's books and look forward to each as they are written. Sadly the 'Last Letter Home' was a disappointment for me. Although well written, I felt that the story took a very long time winding its way to a lackluster ending. That said I will continue to look forward to Ms. Hore's next book.

Dull read
Disappointing. Loved all other Rachel Hore books, but this was dull and took a long time to get mildly interested.

An enjoyable read.
4 - 4 1/2 star read. This was a Richard and Judy book club selection 2018. Briony is on holidays in Italy with friends and discovers a story about a villa where her grandfather had been stationed in WWII. She's given some letters discovered at the villa and embarks on a search to try to find out about Sarah and Paul, whose love story is in the letters. There is some mystery about Paul and her investigations trigger some baffling roadblocks and some resentment from others. This was a lovely wartime romance and a present day story as Briony discovers what happened during wartime and how it involved her family. An enjoyable read.

A waste of time and money
Unfortunately I bought this book along with another Rachel Hore's one blindly, relying myself only on the synopsis which seemed interesting. Well they are both totally disappointing!I read several novels set in wartime, all of them with interesting stories, but Rachel Hore is totally denied to write stories like these, because despite there are many historical references, everything about war is so shallow that you can't develop any empatethic feelings about it. Nor with the characters, that in this case are so many, and (nearly all) pointless. The story is full of useless details and as has a rushing ending, almost abrupt. You are left without explanations and you have to draw your own conclusions. And the funniest (and disappointing) thing is that everything starts with a mistery which surround an Italian (and abandoned) Villa, and about the families involved in the heritage process and eventually this path is no longer followed until you discover that everything has been fixed at the very last few pages of the novel (when, how and why ??????)Surely I'll never buy another Rachel Hore's novel ever!
