I USED TO BUY THESE BOOKS FOR MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER AND SHE LOVED THEM SO MUCH.SHE IS NOW A TEACHER AND SAID THAT THE THINGS IN THESE BOOKS STILL HELP HER TODAY.

The themes in these books center around social interaction: bullies, parental divorce, foster care, feeling like a misfit, social isolation, etc. They are set in England and have the usual native slang like loo for bathroom. If the Young Adult you intend them for is struggling with reading, this may be a drawback. In my case, the intended reader likes more action in her stories so I'm returning the set. I ordered them by mistake--wrong author. If the subject matter sounds like your young reader's cup of tea, the stories are well written--I'd just recommend starting out with a single novel before you commit to a set of 10.My four star rating is geared toward readers at the 4th grade level interested in YA British novels centering on social interaction.

The delight on my 9 year old niece's face when I gave her these was well worth the purchase!! More Jacqueline Wilson box sets please, particulary aimed at the "younger" fans as a lot of the box sets contain books that a 9 year wouldn't be reading.
