I was excited to buy a bigger water fountain for my 2 dogs and 3 cats. My 1/2 gallon ceramic fountain had to be filled so often, especially during this heat wave we have a lot of it evaporate during the day. The old fountain had a very quiet motor and filtered water very well; the water simply had to be replenished too often. I value PetSafe brand products and was excited to receive this. Setup was easy. My dogs adapted to it immediately. First impression was I was surprised how loud this fountain is. I might as well leave my kitchen sink faucet running all day; it really is that annoying. Most importantly, it doesn't do what a filtered fountain is supposed to do, and that is keep the water clean. My old fountain only needed a good cleanout and complete exchange every 1-2 weeks. This thing is filthy is less than 1 day. Dirt and debris settled to the bottom. And the aggravation of having to carry 1.5 - 2 gallons of water to sink and empty, take apart, and refill every 2 days is ridiculous. Honestly, at this point it is easier and cleaner to simply have a large dog bowl and empty it out daily. I am on the lookout for a better fountain that is large enough to accommodate all my animals, but still keep the water as clean as possible

Our son told us about this animal “watering hole.” He has three large dogs and one cat. He got the 2 gallon version. We have one large dog and two small cats so we got the 1 gallon version.First negative: Our son had to help us set this unit up because the instructions were not written for plain ol’ people. lolSecond negative: (Not really a bad thing) Get a larger size than you think you’ll need. While the 1 gallon works nearly perfectly for us, I don’t want the water to fall below the intake area, so I must add water at least three to four times a day to keep the water level above the intake. (The water gets sucked into the intake. pumped up to the top of the unit and falls out like a “waterfall.”)I did not realize how much water our animals drank every day. Prior to this unit we had a large bottle of water upside down in a drinking trough and as they drank water, the bottle refilled it’s trough, much like a water unit in an office/company using bottled water.Because we live in Arizona and have mosquitoes, we cannot use that old system in the spring or summer. (We found the mosquitoes were laying their eggs in the stagnant water and there were larva swimming around and mosquitoes were flying around inside that bottle!!) So we needed a “fresh“ water system with a filter and no stagnant water and voilà! this waterfall, watering hole came to live in our home.My only wish is that I could send this one back and buy the 2 gallon unit.If you want convenience, ease, and fresher, filtered water for your animals then you won’t be disappointed with this unit. Just make sure you buy a larger unit than you think you will need.And by the way, it is not loud in any way, shape or form. We have an open floor plan - the living room, dining area and kitchen are all one big, open room. We cannot hear it any of our rooms. It is not a loud gurgle at all, by any stretch of the imagination. You can adjust the waterfall speed (noise) so enjoy it! Just step up to the plate and buy the larger unit. You won’t be sorry.

THIS... Is the Drinkwell Gallon Fountain by PetSafe and it is the next fountain I have thrown down for my dogs to see if it will make the cut! This watering fountain holds around two gallons and also has two separate filters (an initial foam waste filter and a carbon filter) to replace. It runs quietly and has a nice adjustable output of around 200l/hr on high, and hits the water break on the bowl to keep it from making a splashing sound.Initially, I was thinking this was going to be a complicated water fountain from the initial setup, however, once I got my bearings straight and READ THE DIRECTIONS I was able to effortlessly set it up. It has a few pieces to clean and takes around 5-10 minutes to break down, thoroughly clean (if not dishwashing), and assemble. I found the filters to be in well-suited places and they are quite easy to replace!The water stream only diminished once the first initial waste filter had filled up, and, replacing it fixed it instantly! The filters aren't terribly priced either, with the Foam Filter (2 pack) costing $6 to be changed every couple of months and a 12-pack of carbon filters costing $12.30 and needing to be replaced about once a month. The replacement pump also isn't too bad either and is currently $19.99 so altogether not the worst in terms of long-term maintenance! A nice thing to see from PetSafe!I really enjoy this Dog Fountain, and besides wishing it came in other colors, this pump looks nice and works well. I haven't had it flood, leak or show signs of weakness in any way and truly see this as a product that will stick around for a while. The only reason I would replace this is due to needing a bigger water basin and a reserve tank as my Great Dane and Lab need this fountain refilled about every other day which is no fault to this wonderful product.I loved how easy it was to break down and individually clean and think this is truly a great product to trust with your pets. I think once you introduce this fountain to your pets, it will become apparent to you as well how nice this fountain is!UPDATE===============I had to warranty the pump... ok no big deal! It is 4/22/2023 upon updating my review and initially reaching out to Petsafe on 3/28/2023. I have not really moved forward and they have had gaps as large as one week in between correspondence. Not really sure what to do other than buy a new pump at this point which doesn't make since if the product has a warranty and the pump fails in the first 3 months.
