good shuttle
Shuttle was for tatted lace work. It did the job. It's hard to find shuttles in most fiber related stores anymore so I was glad to find them on Amazon.

Great beginner shuttle
Great shuttle! The bobbin is a little tight at first, but loosens up to a nice tension level with a little use. Also, winding it can be tough. This might be common knowledge but was a lightbulb moment for me - if you put the non-hook end of the shuttle in the hole in the center of the bobbin, it makes it much easier to hang on to while winding your thread.

I'm glad I could find a Boye Tatting shuttle .
I've always used Boye products, so this was right up my alley . It's a very good old company. It's good to purchase extra sewing bobbins (check the sizing) This is a very old lace making tecknic. Maybe since the Elizabethan done with a large sewing needle. The shuttle was probably invented in the 1920's. It's very beautiful lace, although it takes a long time.

Bad Manufacturing
The shuttle's metal finishing is horrible. The edges are rough to the point of being sharp. For a tool that's used with bare hands, it could be hazardous. I ordered this Boye product because I've always being very satisfied with their tools. These shuttles (2) were very disappointing. I will need to use a file or a metal working tool to make them usable.

Nice, but rough edges
I like the proportions of the shuttle very much--great to hold while learning the skills. However, the finished edges of the shuttle are not worthy of the Boye brand. Really shouldn't have to take sandpaper to the edges of a tool that works with thread. Far too abrasive to the thread, and not pleasant to touch. After sandpaper, though, this shuttle is my current favorite of the half-dozen I bought to try to find my preference.

Better than I thought it would be!
Tatting shuttles are generally not expensive, so when I finally got the 'hang' of shuttle tatting, I wanted to try using one of each of the different styles. I'm very impressed with this one...It's not a pretty color...but it doesn't make that clicking noise when you extend thread off the bobbin that the other brands make...So, it's my 'go to' bobbin I use when tatting in bed. It doesn't make noise that can bother my hubby while he's sleeping!!!!

Like removal bobbin
I like that this shuttle has a removable bobbin. Because it is metal, i am not worried about breaking it if stepped on.

Quality has deteriorated greatly
I have some Boye tatting shuttles from 20+ years ago which I have used regularly. They were manufactured in the US and I love them. I have misplaced one of mine, so I recently ordered a replacement. The quality is noticeably inferior. I just looked at the shuttle and it was made in China. The edges are rough and sharp, whereas my old Boye shuttle was smooth. The metal is obviously thinner. If I can use the new shuttle at all, I will have to file down the edges to avoid cutting myself or my thread. Boye, you might be making your shuttles much more cheaply now, but they are worthless as shuttles.
