Connector Type:Npt Female  |  Item Length String:2.25 Inches  |  Number of Items:1  |  Part Number:70-601-01 The Apollo 70-600 series two-piece three-port diverting ball valve is made of bronze and has a lever handle and female National Pipe Taper (NPT) threaded connections on both ends. This valve is made of bronze for higher strength and corrosion resistance than brass and has a zinc-plated steel lever handle with a vinyl sleeve for manual control. This ball valve is three-port diverting to regulate flow among three sections of pipe. Its maximum pressure is 400 pounds per square inch (gauge) (psig) for use with water, oil, and gas (WOG). It has NPT threads on both ends for creating tighter seals than straight threads. Reinforced polytetrafluoroethylene (RPTFE) seats and a PTFE seal reduce the risk of valve leakage. This ball valve is standard (or regular) port for reduced valve size and cost and has a working temperature range of -20 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. This valve is for use in water lines, processing plants, and agricultural applications and meets standard MSS SP-110 for quality assurance. Ball valves use a spherical disc to control the flow between pipes, tubes, or hoses. Flow is allowed when the hole that pierces the ball-shaped disc is in line with the inlet and outlet of the valve. Flow is blocked when the ball is horizontally swiveled 90 degrees, so that the hole of the ball is perpendicular to the opening of the valve. Ball valves can be referred to as full port or reduced port (also known as regular or standard port) depending on the inner diameter of the valve. A ball valve is full port if the hole of the ball is the same size as the inner diameter of the connecting pipeline (resulting in lower friction) and is reduced port if the hole of the valve is one pipe size smaller than the pipe, resulting in less flow through the valve than through the shaft of the pipe. Ball valves may have a handle or lever that aligns with the ball’s position (open or closed) for manual operation. They are primarily used in air, gas, liquid, and steam applications. Apollo manufactures ball, mixing, and relief valves, actuators, water gauges, marine fittings, heating and plumbing products, and backflow prevention devices. The company, founded in 1928 and headquartered in Matthews, NC, meets International Organization for Standardization ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and makes products that meet ISO and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards.

Not suitable for potable water
I bought this with the intention of using it for a potable water application. Nowhere in the online description does it say not suitable for a potable water. However, when I received the part it had a big tag on it that says "Warning it is illegal to use this product in the United States for potable water services" Not really the sort of minor detail that should be left out.

Can be used as a flow diverter or source choice - you make the call!
Solid construction, very tight, no leaks. This item is designed as a flow diverter, but works equally well as a source switch (similar in function to an A/B switch in electronics). This can be plumbed to either have a single source that can be diverted into one of two outlets or you can create a reverse flow: having two sources from which you can choose one or the other for a single outlet. I'm using it this latter way. I have town water and well water plumbed to the back of my house for outside use. With this valve I can have the town water through the hose for filling the dogs' drinking dishes and other potable uses and then switch to the well for volume uses like watering the lawn.

very useful valve. Be aware of port orientation.
This is a very useful valve for me. I like the large bore internal passages. Be aware that the middle port is the in and the two others are outs, selected by the handle.

Well built
We will go though 4 of these a year by wearing them out, but that to be expected, they turn off on on hundreds a time a day. We use them on air blast sprayers and are well used when we finally replace them. The price here so far has been lower than McMaster Carr and will keep buying them here until that changes.

Makes bypass easy
I used two of these when I added a UV Max C4 ultraviolet water treatment unit to our water system. The three way valves allow me to bypass the unit if I need to service it, or if the unit malfunctions or leaks. Each three way valve takes the place of two normal two-way valves. These are full port valves which do not restrict the flow of water in our 3/4" fresh water plumbing system. Great value.

NOT for potable/drinking water, also no straight through flow capability
Make sure you know this valve is NOT "supposed" to be used for potable (drinking) water applications. Other than that limitation, I have every intention of using it in a potable application since I couldn't find a better valve offering full flow (there are almost no restrictions in this valve vs a 90degree elbow) for the price. The main "concern" is the body is bronze, which during the casting process, contaminants can leech into the metal from the mold, and the risk is very low. Through more expensive casting processes, bronze could be made (and in many cases is) potable-safe, but this particular case, the valve lacks the certification. All the internals are brass. The only other potential gotcha is the valve orientation. A straight through (no 90degree) flow is NOT possible with this valve in any orientation. The T part of the valve (where is is perpendicular to the other two ports) is the common flow power, the handle selects which of the other two ports that will be connected to. So no matter the orientation of the valve, water will ALWAYS flow through a 90degree bend.

Seems like the kind of thing you would want to mention
1" Not for potable water! Big tag on the product when opened, which is not pictured in the photos and not mentioned in the text. Seems like the kind of thing you would want to mention?

Arrived used!
Part arrived used, with oils and unknown buildup on the inside of the part. Also, part number indicates it’s not lead free as the other questions indicate
