And just to be greedy I wanted something that would do lots of cool tricks too!In summary, don’t be scared that you’ve never heard Zhiyun, they have a strong pedigree in pro grade gimbal equipment for top end SLR’s. I get a sense with the smooth 4 that because you aren’t paying for a consumer brand name that spends lots on advertising, that money is invested in a top notch build quality and feature list.The Smooth 4 works flawlessly, and the App (ZY Play) pairs very nicely and provides a wealth of features. Importantly for my big fat man hands, the vast majority of functions in the app are controlled via the buttons on the gimbal handle.The gimbal motors provide a good strong feedback and setup was very simple. Provided instructions are a little lacking in detail, however Zhiyun have some excellent YouTube tutorials that make using basic and advanced features easy.This comes with a good sturdy tripod that is removable, meaning you have an included base for timelapse and the beautiful motion timelapse modes.Video taken with the gimbal hand held is as the name describes, beautifully smooth and can copes with a good amount of shaking and running about. The setting for motion or walking change sensitivity and reaction of the gimbal ensuring a smooth shot. Again, all settings are on the handle meaning its supper easy to change modes without fiddling and missing that all important shot.The advanced features are a lovely addition. Pano mode is to me better than the inbuilt IOS version, the gimbal will auto take a shot at different points and stitch them together for you. The absolute winner for me that really sold this to me compared to the competition is tracking timelapse. You simply set a start and end waypoint on the gimbal, enter some basic timelapse info and the gimbal will provide a super smooth tracking timelapse. It’s a simple thing but a timelapse that pans and zooms adds a level of interest that takes those home movies to another level.There’s so much more to say about this device, and I’m really pleased that I took the plunge. The flexibility of locking, tracking phone go fast following means this device is pretty much all you need. My only reservation is the tracking mode, I’ve had mixed results with this. A must buy to provide beautiful movies and effects.

The day I received the ZHIYUN Smooth 4 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer I had a specific project to do - create a promo video.The phone app is easy to download. With Bluetooth on, run the app, turn-on the Smooth 4, it appears in the list of devices on the app, one tap and you're ready to go. The app accesses your mobile camera giving you zoom control, optional manual control for exposure and a range of other features via the buttons on the Smooth 4.I took a race up to a nearby mountain trail with the Smooth 4, my mobile and a Zaffiro lapel mic for sound. The mobile and Smooth 4 were fully charged. For an hour, I drove around the mountain road stopping here and there to film. It took a few moments to get used to operating but gradually I co-ordinated the hand control to get the shots I looked for. The footage was mainly pieces-to-camera which gave great variety and helped give spontaneity to the video. I was able to create steady pans and tracking shots with ease.The ZHIYUN Smooth 4 handheld gimbal is an ideal tool for those of us who don't have a full crew around, allowing for amazing footage to be captured using a mobile phone.

Was so looking forward to this as it seems best in class.Tried everything to make this connect via Bluetooth, the app simply cannot see the device. Changed ios version to a lower one and still nothing. Even iphone 8 and 7 all various ios versions including the public beta.Spoke to Tech support who were pretty good to be fair but told me 2 things, one the i phone 11 isn't supported and two the iphone 11 pro max is too heavy and not supported. Real shame. Will be returning to Amazon Monday after i try everything again just in case.***UPDATE***So I got a message from the manufacturer, a new lady I had not spoken to Helen. She was very knowledgeable about the product. She convinced me to purchase the unit again and try to make it work once more. She did offer some discount on the unit so I though why not. Upon arrival I installed the software and guess what? It WORKS!! Firsts time. Since that I have used it daily with no issues. I do also have the dji unit and this is just as good if not better in certain applications. Well done, it takes a lot to change my mind!I’ll do a review on twitch or YouTube sometime soon. Bought this as it got very good reviews - mostly better than the DJI Osmo 2, apart from an admitted problem connecting to Android phones. Sadly however the connection to my iPhone proved to be somewhat unreliable too - frequently dropping out and forcing me to restart the app. In the end it became too frustrating to use, so am sending it back. Also, don't underestimate the size of these gimbals (the various makes are all a similar size) - its quite a 'chunky' combination when carrying it around, and you'll need quite a large bag to carry it in...

I'm using a Huawei P20 pro and getting exceptional footage.If you want to go beyond the Zhiyun app, this is highly integrated with Filmic Pro, which is a great thing and one of the swaying factors for me.Battery life is incredible, charged holds well. I love that it comes with a detachable tripod which makes setup much easier as well as offering an option to film static shots with the phone.Overall, so far the product seems great, well built and sturdy, sound, easy to hold, the tripod is perfect, looks great and I love using it.
