As described! Will be a Lovely christmas gift for my son.

Whilst it's not a new idea to have a dog on a leash (old 70s/80s toy cars had a cable sticking out the back and a battery/control box on the end of it and were better too), this toy seems to be really simple: press the button on the leash and the dog emits a stock sound, ranging from barking to a line from the movie then it commences walking for a couple of feet. When walking occurs, it's in a slightly curved "straight" line, as dictated by the mechanical inaccuracy in its components. There's no capability to navigate even the simplest obstacle course. Continued pressing of the leash button makes the toy lumber forward and that's it. There are no other "tricks" the toy performs either in or out of the default "demo" mode. Frankly, it's stupidly expensive at £50 from Toys-R-Us (Christmas 2016) but around £100 from various Amazon sellers is ludicrous. I know small children like repetition ad nauseam but this will really test their patience and make the toy uninteresting in very short order unless your child is a die-hard Max fan.

The teddy the dog Max is a good option for the kids and this is a great surprise as gift.

I would have given this toy 5stars however I received it today(my son's 2nd bday party was today as well) and the dog was filthy. I usually love Amazon but I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. Keep in mind these pictures were taken after I cleaned it the best I could. I would have never kept this toy except I had no choice because my son's party was in less than 1 hour from the time I received this package.

My niece had a "dog on a leash" toy at Christmas that my 4 year old son LOVED so I ordered this for him for his 5th birthday hoping it would be as big of a hit. Alas, it was not. I should say, it was when he opened it and for about 5-10 minutes (see pictures taken during those 5-10 minutes) until he realized how lame it was and now it's sitting in the corner where I suspect it will stay until I can finally bring myself to give it to charity. Here's what you should know about this toy:- It is cute to look at, is a good size and the "fur" is very soft.- The sound is decent quality and loud enough without being too loud which is good.- It works insomuch that when you push the button on the leash he says a phrase or barks, takes 3 steps then wags his tail (not so much his tail but his whole back half).- He's supposed to say like 15 things but I listened to my son push the button for 30 minutes straight and all I ever heard were a bark and 4 other phrases. Either this is complete false advertising and there are no other phrases or this thing is so poorly programmed that you never get to hear them.- The leash is REALLY short. My son is 4 and he still has to stand RIGHT behind the dog to "walk" him. The pictures of kids walking this toy are really misleading. Seriously, the leash it ridiculously short.- It's additionally ridiculous to think you can actually "walk" this dog as he only ever takes 3 steps and then stops and wags his butt, even if you hold down the button. At that rate it would take you literally 20 minutes to cross a room and I don't know a single child (let alone my impatient autistic boy) who has the patience for that.- The leash does come off and you can "pet" his back to get him to bark and say things and wag his butt, but it's more like finding the button on his back and pushing it rather than petting him like you'd pet a real dog.- Putting the leash back in is really hard for the younger kids as there are 3 tiny prongs inside the cable that have to lined up just right to get it back in. This is completely dumb. My son got frustrated when he couldn't do it by himself and I got frustrated that he couldn't play with his birthday present without help from me.In summary, while this is cute and looks like it will be a lot of fun when you're admiring it in the box, it is one of those toys that just doesn't pan out. I certainly do not think it's worth the money you pay for it. I hate leaving bad reviews but people should know what they're really getting before they spend $40. There are other similar toys (walking dogs on leashes) out there that are way better in terms of functionality (I'm going to have to ask my sister in law where she got the one for my niece). If your kid HAS to have Max because of the movie then maybe they'll like it, but my son hasn't even seen the movie and just liked the concept of the toy and for that this really falls flat. You're definitely paying a "movie tax" for this toy. My recommendation is look elsewhere.I did NOT receive this product for free or at a discount. Hope this helps!

no good. First one I ordered wouldnt work at all straight out of the box. Amazon awesomely sent a replacement ASAP and it was working fine for about two days. Now it rarely will even make noise, will not walk at all unless lifted in the air (and that's only sometimes.) (and yes I tried all types of surfaces). Sucks because my son was very excited to receive this for Christmas, but he just gets frustrated and stopped playing with it. They need to revisit the product and try again. However, Amazon as always was perfect about replacement and I did not attempt to return this last one as I'm just over it at this point.

Oh my god, my daughter LOVES this toy! It's soft & cute & pretty much as described, except it says less and moves less than I had imagined. The box says it has over 15 sayings from the movie, but I'm counting maybe 4 unless you count just barking & wiggling its butt as a saying. Also, you really can't "walk" this dog- it takes 2-3 very short, quick steps per press of its button which moves it all of about 5 inches. My 3 year old can walk much faster than this thing & once we took it out for a walk, she quickly got tired of this toy- not quite what either of us had been picturing. I think she loves it more for the fact that she saw it on tv & that santa brought it than for the toy's actual merits

Pros:- It's soft.- It's cute.- It looks and sounds just like Max on The Secret Life of Pets. Even my 20 months old son can recognize him.- My son likes it.Cons:- It doesn't walk straight.- It walks for a very short time, so you have to keep pressing the button in order to keep it walking for longer time.- It walks a few steps forward and then a few steps back, so kids can't really take it for a "walk".- The connector between the leash and the dog doesn't stay connect all the time, so sometimes the dog doesn't walk even when you press the leash. If it happens too often, I may return it.

My 4 year old had been asking Santa for months to get walking max. He received him for Christmas and was beyond hapoy- overall very happy with the purchase, I think the leash could be a little longer. Its pretty short even for a kids use. So far he has held up through 2 toddlers playing all day everyday since Christmas!

My two year old granddaughter ADORES this toy! She loved the movie so much, I parted with forty bucks for Max! She loves taking him for walks in clean areas and enjoys unhooking the leash for snuggles. The toy worked perfectly on the first try, and the seller's description is spot on! Comes with batteries already installed--ready to take out of fun packaging and play. Max walks, talks, barks and wags his tail. He even cocks his little head. So life-like. Not a real soft toy, but other features make up for this small flaw. One of her favorite toys now! Very pleased!

Nice gift for the price for the holiday. I received it with the battery cover open, & I couldn't close it. It's like somebody tried to close it by screwing it tighter until the screw was to small. Over screwed it in. Then my son picked up the dog by its head to cuddle it. The motor went out of its place. U can hear the dog talking and the motor running but no move ment. It was a holiday gift and my son is 1 years old. That's y I didn't make a big deal of it. The price was great

My 2 year old loves this!!! Best Christmas Gift this year for her. She walks it every night around house. It works and functions as described and I would recommend this to any parent out there. If your kids like or love the Secret Life of Pets movie, they will surely want this!

The toy did it's job, it made my daughter happy and that is the only thing that mattered to me. It is cute, well built and perfect size for her. I wish it had more sayings but overall not bad. I like that the leash can be removed if you want. This Max was definitely better than a real dog any day.
