If you want to initiate in this world of photography, you ought to consider to start by learning from the masters...This book compiles all the most influential and great photographers since the beginning of the history of photography, with enmphasis in the 20th century...Almost 800 pages, where you can find, in alphabetical order, the most famous photographies besides a brief explanation of his/her author that helps you to understand a little more what is photography...I think it's a must to have it in your shelf among other books... If you don't want to buy this one, you have to find another similar book which passes throughout the history of photography and start joying this passion...

Searched for as a gift for young photographer as graduation gift. Wound up with a first edition from book store. The book has apparently been sought after, as I tried several different sources. So well handled, came with a note of explanation the significance I would have missed! I was able to pass on a first edition for what I was trying to pay for a reprint of a 1949 tome

I can not said good enough about this volume, lots of information about photographers someones I never heard about, very very good. Love it!

For a book with such a broad title, the actual presentation is fairly limited.
