Good approach, needs to be updated for Sketchup for the Web user interface
I very much like the focus on woodworking, which makes the tutorials much more relevant to me (a beginning woodworker). The steps are reasonably clear for the most part. However, I'm stumbling because Trimble, the maker of SketchUp*, has made some significant changes to its product lineup, basically into two product: SketchUp Pro and SketchUp for Web. These products have very different user interfaces. If you have one version, you'll be confused if you use a book or tutorial designed for the other version. For some features and functions, you can figure out the mapping, but for others, it's not so easySo, I'd love for Mr. Heim to issue another edition strictly focused on Sketchup for Web. It could have two main sections: the SketchUp piece, and then the extra stuff you can use with the SketchUp Shop product.I'd even offer to be a Guinea Pig.*If you see any books that refer to "Google SketchUp," don't buy them. Google sold SketchUp to Trimble in 2012, so any books on Google SketchUp will be woefully out of date. And there are two versions of the Web product: Free and Shop. I have the Shop version.

Helpful for beginner and moderates
I'm not a total amateur with SketchUp, but there is are so many ways to use it that I found this book helpful. It is always fun to learn something new. I think someone totally new to SketchUp might find this book difficult when trying to follow the instructions. For example: "Choose the Offset tool and click its cursor on one edge of the board. Begin dragging toward the center and type 1/4. Click again. Switch to the Push/Pull tool, click the narrow rectangle" I would suggest working with the basic tools until you feel comfortable because by chapter four the author is giving instructions faster than a novice can do them. I would also recommend learning keyboard shortcuts first because it is much faster than trying to find the needed tool. You can get the keyboard shortcuts off the web. The book itself is printed on very nice heavy paper.

Good techniques and tips, a bit brief
This book is helpful for the clear and useful technique that it teaches the woodworker in using SketchUp. It's illustrated very nicely. I also found the discussion about the various versions of Sketchup useful, because I didn't realize that it was still possible to obtain a free, stand-alone version of SketchUp (SketchUp Make 2017). I had been using the Web App version, and found it somewhat limited. The price of the book was worth this piece of information to me, though I probably could have discovered it elsewhere had I know to look for it. The book is only 118 pages long, and they're not large pages, so there's not an overabundance of detail or anything like a comprehensive treatment of SketchUp. But it does what it claims to do, i.e, provide "four simple rules to create 3-D drawings quickly and accurately."

Very clear and concise, task-oriented user guide. Great way to learn SketchUp!
Great book! Easy to follow with important procedures touched on first, progressively getting into more complex tasks later in the book. This book very logically structures information and walks you through each procedure in clearly written steps and examples. I became proficient with the software in a matter of days. No more pencil and paper for me!

Not very helpful.
Unless you already know quite a bit about CAD , this book won't help.

Maybe great for Windows machines but for Mac? Not so much!
I bought this book after much research because SketchUp is supposedly the best design software for woodworking and this particular book is listed everywhere as the Bible of SketchUP for woodworking. The claim on the back cover claims the book "will have you downloading SketchUp after breakfast and drawing detailed and useful plans by the time the dinner bell rings." That may or may not be true in the WIndows world but in the Macintosh world this is just plain false. Although the author does go into step by step detail of how to do most things if you're using a Mac, sadly (at least for the first 3 chapters) virtually all of those steps are wrong or missing crucial information.I gave an overall rating of 3 stars because the author does a good job of describing the function of SketchUp as it applies to woodworking. But if you have an Apple product, expect to spend a lot of time with Google and trial and error before you figure out how to make SketchUp useful. So far, good software but not a lot of help if you don't use a Windows PC.

Some useful information
Some useful information, not exhaustive but doesn't claim to be, if you're learning sketchup get it as one of your reference books as opposed to getting as your starter book

Doesn't render properly on the Kindle apps
This is difficult to read and slow to render on the kindle apps. The capitalised letters at the start of sentences are very often replaced by random icons

Disappointing
I have used Sketch Up for years and taught basic classes in its use for woodworking. I was looking forward to getting this book but am disappointed. It is a series of notes, not detailed instructions in performing operations. As such, it is not well suited for beginners. I found errors, but cannot find anywhere that I could post them. Most technical books are supported by websites where the publisher and author provide corrections. This one doesn't seem to be.
