Words to live by every time we are faced with “the burden of command.”
I can summarize this review in one bold line up front: Both civilian and military leaders, whether you consider yourself a great leader or know you could use a little help, you NEED this book. This is one of, if not the best, books I have read on ALL aspects of leadership. Justin is simultaneously compassionate, insightful, and very honest. There is no fluff or empty clichés. Just meaningful basics we all must master to be successful leading others. He provides leaders with a very unique perspective and gives them a roadmap for mastering leadership (instead of just management) and why it is important to put your team before yourself. This book is easy to follow and great “reset training” to get back to the basics of leadership that can be overlooked or simply lost over time. Reading this was a refresher of things I know are right, but I have neglected in the race to achieve mission success or corporate goals. It is an easy, informative, and entertaining read. Earnest Words to live by every time we are faced with “the burden of command.”

Justin hits those issues head on and provides some great examples in this book of how to address any ...
I've had the pleasure of knowing Justin since we were in high school together. His leadership abilities were evident then and to see his ongoing perseverance through incredibly difficult circumstances (which most of us couldn't even imagine) has been nothing short of inspiring. What I most admire about Justin has been his ability to overcome and adapt - both physically and mentally. Faced with obvious physical challenges, Justin chooses to spend the majority of his time talking about what lurks beneath the surface. I would argue that takes even more courage as we expect our Marines to be tough and if they have a few scars - that should be expected - but don't get soft on me and talk about emotions! Well, Justin hits those issues head on and provides some great examples in this book of how to address any insecurities or weakness you might have and to turn that into a positive opportunity to grow as a leader.I always find it interesting when people write books about leadership but have little to no credentials to speak of. While they may be a great writer, I prefer to learn from someone who has walked the walked, suffered along his/her path and then driven themselves to success against all odds.Whether you're a fan of the military or a Buddhist monk, there's something for everyone to learn in reading this book. I appreciate that it hits on several tangible issues with key takeaways for you to digest and apply in your own life and set of circumstances.Semper Fi!

Great book for recent college graduates as well as all levels of management
This was such an easy read and it held my attention the whole time. Justin uses his personal experience to give important leadership advice that can be used in the office place, as well as in every day life. 95% of my job is working with volunteers and the advice Justin gives applies to working in any profession and at all levels. I think this book is a great gift idea for recent college graduates as well as those in the workforce, wherever that may be. I appreciate Justin opening up about his personal battles and how it made him look at things differently and it will make me look at things differently in the future as well. Best of luck to the author and his wife, whom he so lovingly appreciates throughout the book.

Leadership insights that transcend the office & battlefield
Justin Constantine has written an exceptionally wise, poignant and important book that provides relevant insights for both the office and the battlefield. Through personal stories about his battlefield injury and the ensuing recovery, he illustrates key lessons about leadership that translate across industries. His prose is clear, authentic and eloquent, and he punctuates the lessons with personal photos and key takeaways at the end of each chapter. In the world of too many business books, I found this one to be well worth my time. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to strengthen their leadership capacity in either a personal or professional setting.

but one thing is for certain -- Justin is simply one of the finest human beings on this planet
by Daren Margolin -- For anyone responsible for supervising anyone else, this book is a must read. Justin has overcome a horrific combat injury and has done what very few could ever do -- turned it into a life-changing, positive experience that has powerfully impacted thousands of people in need. Justin takes the reader through his experiences in the Marines, including combat, and ties them neatly into effective leadership lessons for corporate America and small business owners and supervisors. There are lessons in this book for the combat leader too, but one thing is for certain -- Justin is simply one of the finest human beings on this planet. His words of wisdom will greatly benefit anyone who reads this book.
