The book weighs more than 3 lbs. and needs to be packed carefully
This book is an excellent resource and is very heavy. It was not packed period! It was thrown into an oversized box and when it arrived the end=pages were ripped and completely detached from the book. I returned the first book and the second one was damaged in the exact way...torn end-pages. The book was not packed correctly to protect it. Amazon will not send a 3rd one. This is no way to treat a customer.I have no problem with the text and information in the book, that is excellent, but it's the way Amazon handles the shipping and after customer service.I highly recommended this book, but do not recommend it be purchased from Amazon. Got directly to the publisher and purchase it.

An Invaluable Reference for Bank Notes
As a collector of Southern Banknotes for over 20 years I HIGHLY recommend this series of reference books. Not only does Mr Bowers cover every institution that issues Bank Notes but he provides information on variations that is most illuminating. I learned a great deal and was most pleased to see two of my notes serving as plates in Vol. 7!

Premier Reference Work; Cheapest Imaginable Binding
Great book, invaluable amount of data and history, first rate research on a subject where it is difficult to find any information. I own the first seven volumes and use them regularly prior to purchasing any banknotes. The problem, and the reason for the one star rating, is the incredibly weak binding. I ordered two books from different sellers and had to return both of them because they were literally falling out of the bindings before I could remove them from the package; one text I did not even open. On the first text I ordered the inside page was separating from the cover; on the other there was a two inch crack running up the outside of the spine and the pages were already separating. If you buy this volume, you should also purchase a three ring binder to place the pages in. A pity such a monumental work in this field has been placed in the cheapest binding Whitman could find. I have seen paperbacks with better bindings. We contacted the company and they offered to replace it with a "selected" one at a higher price than I could find it on Amazon... You decide...
