Must buy for all board game lovers
This is an excellent board game.I bought this for our once a week, family game night. I looked up a couple of different 'how to play' tutorials on YouTube to get a feel for the game, you will probably need to do this aswell as the instructions booklet can be rather confusing at times.A few weeks in and the children won't play anything else (ages 8 - 14), the all love it.The pieces are very high quality and the board can be chopped and changed depending on the number of players.Play time is about 90 mins.It may take a few sessions to get into the full swing of the game, but once you do, it's absolutely worth the patience. There is also a solo option to play a single player game if, like me, your into that kinda thing.Highly recommend.

Great game
This is hands down my favourite board game so I had to give it 5 stars. All of the wooden pieces are shaped so no need to worry about your resources being discs and your animals being cubes. The central board is a single folding piece with a jigsaw type side which is used to attach the second board piece for the correct number of players. It’s nice but I do wonder how it will fare after a number of plays, I personally would have preferred separate boards like the original edition but this is probably just a matter of taste.Plenty of ziplock bags are provided for storage, though I do wish they would just provide a nice box insert instead. The only fault in the copy I received was that one of the purple family member pieces had a piece of wood splintered off - a little superglue fixed this easily.

Ignore the 5 stars unless you're a game fanatic
I got hoodwinked by all the 5 star reviews, which must clearly be written by people who spend all their lives playing games. I cannot (unfortunately) afford that time. This game is truly abominal. If you're thinking "Bit bored of Monopoly now, maybe try a new board game" this is definitely not for you. For a start it takes forever to get the bazillion different types of cards, pieces of wood, activity cards and what not set-up. So that makes a quick game an impossibility.I say game, but in reality what playing Agricola really involved is deciphering the mind of some German who was taking something when writing the instructions. They are at at best unfollowable at worst unreadable. English brains are just not wired up like a German one and this is painfully clear from the instructions. Your head will hurt, I promise. If it weren't for some of the 5 star reviewers taking down their board game playing time from the 100% of spare time that they can afford and putting up some Youtube videos to show us working people how it's done you will not be able to figure out how to play the bloody thing. Even as it is, a game of Agricola involves doing something and then spending a good ten minutes to figure out if you've followed the incomprehensible rules properly or not. Sound like fun? Not to me.Even if you do figure the game out, the "skill" of the game is really figuring out the relative inefficiencies of the different paths you can plot through the game as chance plays a small role here. So it's really more like a game of chess where rather than trying to outsmart your opponent on some simple rules which makes for a complex game (hence why it's brilliant) in Agricola you're trying to outsmart them following the mindblowingly complicated rules that the drugged up German designed. So really "learning" Agricola is an exercise in getting into that German's head. Not one for me thanks.

Hard core gamer's or masochist's only
If you like Settlers or Carcassonne which. I love and play them both OK, you might like this game but playing it is a serious challenge and at times not a lot of fun. It is a good simulation of farming and the game play is good the way it works but there is almost no luck in it. There is also too many ways to lose points at the end and you only need to make a couple of mistakes and you are finished. The 3 and 4 player versions are more enjoyable but the 2 player is the one I usually play and this review is for that.

Farming Fun
I purchased this because I love Carcassonne and Settlers of Catan and thought that this would have a slightly similar game play style.I have so far only played the 2 player version but loved it. You can build your home, expand your family, grow and harvest crops and collect cattle, as well as having to ensure that you have enough food to feed your family. If you like Carcassonne and Catan I dont think you will be disappointed in this game.

Great strategic board game.
Great strategic board game with lots of play variants. Very involved so need to play through a few times to get your head round the different variables. The rules and appendix also take a bit of getting used to with some clunky German to English translations - but overall a great board game. Good quality production of board, pieces etc.

Great game
I love this game. It's worth watching a video on YouTube re how to play and the first play through will be just learning the rules, but it's so much fun. You get a sense of a achievement from having built up your farm even if you don't win.

Got it couple days ago but haven't played it yet, just unpacked. Components look very good quality. I have played Z-MAN edition and I loved it. From reviews I understand that Mayfair Games have done some balancing of cards and added more cards from expansions, so now the game should be even better :)
