very bad situation if you end up with a poor professor ...
If you must buy this book for a course, you don't have a choice but to get it, of course. But as far as the content, this book does not adequately explain the concepts, and (even worse) does not have enough examples. The answers to end-of-chapter review problems are sometimes given...and sometimes not! You are in a very, very bad situation if you end up with a poor professor and this book, because you will not be able to "teach yourself" the material, as the text does not have enough detailed examples and doesn't have answers to the practice problems. I don't even understand the purpose of having practice problems if there are no answers.Overall, I cannot recommend the book, because it is not a sufficient resource for learning the material. You will find yourself relying very heavily on outside material.

Good for extra problems
Schaum's has books for just about every subject. I picked this one up to go along with and Engineering Economics course. It was a good addition to the book and the worked out answers helped. These books are not 'idiot's guides' they are just full of extra problems with worked out answers. If you need a little extra help or just more examples these book series are a good choice.

Excellent Overview of Engineering Economics
This is an outstanding clearly written introduction to engineering economic analysis. The text contains many clear examples illustrating how to use the techniques and principles of economic analysis. The one area the book is a little weak is dealing with economics in the public sector (i.e. municipal projects for cities or counties). Overall this is an excellent book for learning the principles and applying them to realistic situations. I use this book as a reference in the professional practice of engineering.

Great for a class reference material but not much else
Solid book for a class textbook. Lots of useful equations, but hard to use after a few months of not reading it.

Engineering Economic Analysis
This book was required for my economics class and from the start I've been frustrated with it. I've given it three stars because personally I feel that the questions at the end of the chapters are worded in such a way that it sounds confusing. Not all questions are bad but I felt Chapter 1 was the worst. The book is not all that bad. The examples are useful if you get stuck on some of the problems. Do go through the book and answer the questions. If you are planning on taking the FE this book will help to prepare you. Go through chapters 3 - 7 and that will cover 90 percent of the questions that will be on the exam. The back of the book does contain FE practice problems but I didn't go through them. The review is somewhat wordy and jumping all over the place but I hope it helps some.(Do not let the 3 stars keep you from buying the book)

Engineering major, but bought it for general info.
The first few chapters are perfectly explained and I like it, but once you pass chapter 11, the examples get vague and not related to the exercise questions. It's like past chapter 11, the examples are written by someone else.Still great book for a beginners.

Good if you are interested in the material.
I had to buy this book for a class. It definitely focuses on "engineering" and "manufacturing" economics as opposed to "macro-economics". Good if that is what you are interested in.

Text Book Rocks!
Actually, it is covers more of the economics and less about geology. That was the other book. Will graduate in May with a Civil Engineering degree and have 3 job offers already (still December when I am writing this note). Must be the book. What else could have gottem me the job offers?
