Chicken saddles are made to protect your hen's back from a roosters nails and spurs. When a rooster overmates a hen this can lead to serious and sometimes life threatening damage. Backs can become bare in what seems like overnight. Often people think they need to trim the spurs or remove them entirely but that is not necessary with a chicken saddle. Why take away your rooster's best defense in protecting his flock when you can get a chicken saddle? We make these saddles to allow feather growth without having to separate your hen from the flock or having to remove or trim anything on your rooster. These can also be used during a molt in case there is excessive pecking. Our design covers more for better protection. We use high quality materials - the patterned cotton front and duck cloth underneath. The elastic that runs along the top of the saddle slips over the wing of your bird to hold the saddle on. We have made this easy for you by allowing the elastic to be pulled completely to one side to have more than enough room to put a wing through without hurting your chicken and then pulled through to the other side to put the other wing in. These are the perfect addition to any emergency kit.

Great price, great product, happy hens
Our hens were getting pretty sore from the roosters’ advances. I wanted to make some saddles/aprons for them but didn’t have time. These were a great price, cute fabrics, and the denim underside offers good protection. The elastic was a good length to hold them in place, but also allow ease of putting them on. My hens don’t seem to notice they have them on, but I’m sure they’ll be glad of them the next time the roosters are getting frisky. Today is the first day they are wearing them so I can’t comment on the durability but they look very well made and are reinforced at the neck. I’d definitely recommend. They look so cute!

Fit my purebred english orpingtons GREAT!
Saddles were very well made (coming from the daughter of a seamstress), they seem very durable, put together and sewed with care. My only concern is that I got some of a grey print which will really show dirt (and it's dirty out here in the country). I am going to save those for summer use when mostly it's just dust around here. I may have some fabric around here ...chicken fabric.....I wonder if she does custom work.....hmmm.... that might be worth looking into.English orpingtons are not just one size....work is being done to breed them up to US size but it is something that is still being worked on. You can end up with some large ones, and some mediumish birds depending on what varieties you get. These saddles worked on them all famously. The bigger girls and the more mediumish ones are doing well with them.Shipping is a bit slow but then again these are handmade items. And the time is not out of line for handmade items of this quality.I'd have no problem recommending these to my chicken friends for their hens.

These work great.
I like these saddles. They are easy to put on the hens, and seem very durable. My hens look really cute in them. My only complaint is that there should not be saddles in the "red" spectrum of color. Hens pick on anything in this color spectrum. This is the reason I have given this product a four instead of a five.

Great product!
Just received them today. Were able to put on the chickens by myself fairly easily. Seem to be very well made. Cute colors. Great fit on the EEs and Buff Orpingtons! If I order another set I will definitely be buying these again. Package even arrived way earlier than projected!

Helping with pecking order problems!
Got these for our henpecked bird and shared with a neighbor who has a similar problem in her flock. Really sturdy construction and super cute! Our Maggie (Easter egger) tried to get it off and run away from it for the first five minutes, but by the next day she forgot it was there. We got the medium, and it fits! Our RI Red rooster is a bit bigger than the ladies and we were worried about Maggie’s unprotected back. This has been good for her and our peace of mind!

Good price for quantity- look for ones with wing guards.
This product is constructed well but the elastic is on the thin side. They are serving the purpose. Also, the saddles are still stiff and bunching after a week of wear. I wish I had washed them with a heavy cup of fabric softener. They are flipping around a lot.I learned that if the roos cannot reach the backs or tails, they start pulling on the top of the wings. My suggestion is look to purchase a product with wing guards. These will help but only moves the problem to another area.

True to size abs fit most common birds.
They fit the chickens perfectly! We have Bardrocks, ISA’a, Americana’s and Rhode Island Reds that are wearing them. They are in pretty cool designs and and easy to put on the bird.

Medium is too small for Australorp, Barred Rocks, Speckled Sussex etc.
First let me say these are very good quality and made very very well. I will order more! But, I purchased the medium based on others reviews that they fit large breed chickens. They do not - they are to small for breeds like Australorps, Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons etc. They do fit perfectly on my Easter Eggers, Cuckoo Marans, and Welsummers (slightly smaller breeds). The mediums are too tight around the wings and about 1 inch too short where the back and tail meet for the larger breeds of chickens - get a large for those breeds. I will be ordering more in large as the workmanship and quality is excellent.
