Power Sipper - Possible Home Server or Media Computer
Product: Coofun GK41 - 128GBManufacturer: BESSTAR TECH LIMITEDI am very impressed with this computer. I think this is a good computer to consider as a light media streamer (read on for operating system observations). This computer is pretty much ready to go right out of the box! It comes with 8 GB RAM installed along with Windows 11 installed on a 128GB M.2 SATA SSD card and an Intel Celeron J4125 CPU that runs its 4 cores (4 threads) at 2.0 GHz.I plugged mine in and waited for Windows 11 to go through its 'first boot' process. After about a minute or two I was able to get into Windows to start testing it.It truly does have 4k @ 60 Hz video playback in Windows 11. I am very impressed! In Windows 11, I checked out some YouTube 4k/60 Hz streams and watched with the 'stats for nerds' enabled. Out of 10,050 frames it only dropped 60 (~0.6% frame drop). That's not perfect, but it is pretty darn good. I could not visibly see any hiccups and the video playback looked buttery smooth. I did not test any games.Next, I popped it open to look at what is inside. There is a 128GB M.2 SATA SSD in my computer. Right beside that drive is a combined power/SATA cable for a 2.5-inch SSD/HDD ready to be used. I did try to plug in an NVMe PCI SSD but it didn't work at all - I did not troubleshoot it. So, I took out the M.2 SATA and installed Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on a 2.5-inch SSD. (tip: mash on the DEL key during boot to get to the BIOS to select the boot device)Video playback under Ubuntu 22.04 was both good and bad. It was really good on 4k Netflix playback through the Firefox browser. It was also buttery smooth when playing back some demo 4k/60Hz test files playing in VLC - 0 frame drops. The bad? In Ubuntu 22.04 YouTube streaming at 4k/60Hz was an abysmal failure in Firefox. I was experiencing 75 to 95% frame dropping - it was herky-jerky! I downloaded the YouTube video and played it back in VLC with 0 dropped frames. I didn't do any investigating to figure out the disparity.I *was* going to use this to experiment with Ubuntu Server functions since I'm currently reading Jay LaCroix's new book, Mastering Ubuntu Server. I chose this computer because I wanted a low power computer that I could leave on for long periods of time without feeling guilty. I measured 20W of power at its maximum draw. When it's idle it hovers around 5W - amazing. Now that I know how good it is at video playback, I might get another unit to use as my home media computer!

It is compatible with pfsense
"I purchased this mini PC to use as a pfSense router, only to discover some fine print in the ad that caused issues out of the box. Fortunately, there's a workaround if you're familiar with FreeBSD—you can update the drivers to get it working as intended."

This device can run OPNsense version 24.1.7 successfully
It does quite well for my home network, and the two ports bridge just fine. My ram consumption is explained by how I am running other programs through plugins on the mini PC, so it will definitely handle basic OPNsense alongside other open source programs. Ease of setup is hindered by the need to install/remove windows 11 in order to access the BIOS/UEFI settings to get OPNsense going, but given the value for money of the device, this is a fair tradeoff. Size is good, it fits near my router just fine. I am neutral on the speed and appearance of this Minisforum device.

So glad I purchased this.
I first bought a "Lsxvern mini computer." Junk ! Reinstalled windows, Stripped everything using WIN10Privacy. Still junk and buggy.. Then they deleted my honest review when I returned it.So I purchased the GK41 Minis Forum Box... I was pleased the moment I flipped the switch..I can't comment on gaming performance. But this box rocks. Love it. I really appreciate the seller for an honest listing. Everything works as it should. It's taking everything I throw at it.I've been building a underwater ROV. I'm needing small easy to replace computers, was skeptical. Networking this box to a topside computer allows hydraulics, pneumatic, lights, video and aux controls. This box is actually over powered for this.( The Buggy Lsxvern mini computer I previously purchased couldn't even keep the time..)If your looking for a Budget Windows 10 computer that performs well, The Minis Forum Is the way to go.Office floor of multi display networks to the kids.. It's the perfect cost effective solution. Small, lightweight and silent. Media Server, File server so many uses.. I bet it rocks with Linux..Get one, you won't be disappointed... It does and has everything it says.

HDCP does not work over HDMI
I bought this mini PC for when my kid had to do remote school during the pandemic. For that purpose it worked fine. It was connected to a 2560x1080 (21:9 ratio) monitor. I just replaced the pc with a Beelink mini pc with a more powerful cpu (ryzen5 5560u) and 16gb ram. I was planning to use the Minis Forum GK41 in my home theater for digital music. Here is my issue: the Minis Forum GK41 will not display any video when connected to to an AV receiver - I have tried with both my Emotiva XMC-2 and Denon X1700H. It also will not display video when connected to my projector (Epson Pro 6050 4k). It appears that this pc’s HDMI port does not support HDCP. I have an HDMI over ethernet transmitter/receiver on which the HDCP LED indicator is blinking when connected to this pc, which means the HDCP signal is either not detected or is not working properly. I connected the new Beelink mini pc to my av processor and it works perfectly displaying 4K resolution. In summary, if you want to use this with a dedicated pc monitor and do lightweight work, it works for that purpose (definitely no gaming - i.e. fortnite with low graphics settings gets about 8 FPS). If you want to use the Minis Forum GK41 in any home theater setting where it will be connected to an av receiver, look elsewhere. I contacted Minis Forum support with very specific details and they responded with a single sentence answer: “have you tried with another projector?” I’m not sure whether their support team is not aware of the HDCP issue or are simply not up to speed on their product and limitations. At this point, I have little confidence in Minis Forum and their products as a result of this and would recommend other brands over this one.
