Dead Men

Cowboys and Indians in 1868
A long movie that weaves back and forth in the time span of the story. Not sure if this helps or hurts the movie. Set in post civil war and prior to moving the tribes off the land to reservations. Set in "Jackson Ridge" in Arizona Territories. There seemed to be attention to the period dress, period guns, Apache homes, and Apache war paint. I think it would be fair to say this was a "B" movie. No famous actors or CGI - just an honest movie with 60 some actors listed. I was surprised to learn it as a 3 hour movie as it keeps you interested just enough to keep going - even the negative reviews - many hung to the end. As carefully as the whole movie was laid out, it did seem like the ending was a little rushed and did not tie up some of the loose ends about the plot, but still a fair ending. Effort was made to have dialog in the native dialect with English subtitles - so someone spent lots of time doing language coaching. This movie made you cheering on the Apaches instead of the cowboys. If you are looking for top shelf entertainment, this is not the movie, but if you make allowances for it being a "B" movie, you will be entertained. Just glad the movie does not have "smell" effects - they must of been pretty stinky back then. The accuracy of the application of Sheriff and Marshall's seems to fit the time period - 1864 law established. Interesting Western but - - -
The movie tells an intriguing story that lacks a tighter screen product in both writing and directing. Flashbacks were far too many for a 3 hour movie and made it difficult to determine what characters have disappeared or will re-apppear. Did the producer anticipate this movie to lead to a series of follow-up movies? The acting was good.

If the time is 1868 then weapons are wrong.
The pistols and ammo are wrong, it be other 5 to 6 years before the cartridge was working item. Cartridge ammo was very expense item so you didn't target shoot. It took into late 70's cartridge would load together. The converted pistols are somewhat be available for local cowboy. But finding ammo for some pistols. At gun shows there was old cartridge loader. You ram bullet home with turn of a screw. It was slow and you had to check your casings. The holsters are from late 1880's. Most holsters are surplus Army holsters, flap cut down or removed. Or made his own holsters to fit his needs. They would wet the holster and from around firearm. You made do with leather and belts at hand.Pants had no pockets on back side, riding a horse the item in back pocket would press into your fla . The items in back pocket went to the vest or saddle bag.

****3-1/2 Stars**** A wanna-be 'Deadwood' but ...
without the budget, stellar acting, brilliant script and dialogue. Also sorta PG-13 vs. Deadwood's sometimes over-the-top profanity, sex and nudity. That said, if you (like me) are a Deadwood junkie needing a fix, this isn't a bad flick. The first half isn't very good, but it sets up the second half well, which actually is very good. Overall, 'Dead Men' steals shamelessly from 'Deadwood' (plot elements, characters, sets and even scenes) but is that a bad thing? Not for me ... by the end I had my Deadwood fix, even if at half-strength. Enjoy!

Very Good Western.
I love westerns, History, and the bible. This was a very interesting plot, which started with two sons and their father which was shot by those to take his claim. Then it directs the story of what happened to one son and the other. Which I won't cover, so you will enjoy it.As an Native born Arizonan, the Old West which includes New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Utah had its drama, and California. With the many silver mines, Cattle ranches, and Indians played a struggle for all that was involved. Life, love and death. There are a few situations, which was common in the Old West, but never brought out in such detail. The Actors are likable, and love to hate,[ The bad guys]. Get the movie you will love it.William E. Chandler.

Don't Buy it!
This western is way too long and drawn out. Some of it was interesting but the length takes away from the interest. Takes way too long and the ending leaves you feeling like the story still isn't finished even after watching for three hours! Time should have been cut down and a clearer ending should have been added. In short, I do not like it and do not recommend wasting time with it!

Excellent Western Movie!!!
Yes, lots of side plots going on, but easy to follow. It keeps it interesting. It's a 3 hr movie.I thought the filming/casting was EXCELLENT!! Production as well. When Vince walked into the bar and faced the guy with the wip, on large screen Vince looked totally scary. Wheh!! Imagine running into a guy like that back then?? Some of the horse footage and the scenery excellent as well.Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it... and why Jessie didn't get shot 4 or 5 different times at the end was about the only point I thought the movie was too predicable and not plausible.

This movie is really good, and on par with some of the better ...
I've watched lots of western flicks from the Sacketts, old John Wayne movies, current western movies. I have read the majority of Louis L'Amour, Don Bendell books. And I am a fan of all the old western TV series, Gunsmoke, The rifleman, Bonanza to name a few. Needless to say I am a fan of the Western Genre. This movie is really good, and on par with some of the better movies of this genre. Ric Maddox killed it, you can tell that he has a strong comfort level atop a horse. So many westerns miss the mark where actors look awkward on their horse, so I appreciate the small authentic pieces of a western.

Wem so was trotzdem gefällt muss 2 Std. Stunden und 50 Minuten (auch ohne Werbung) "durchhalten"...
