Thick, adds good flavor
These are a bit thicker than the pieces I usually crumble into ramen but the bigger pieces cook down nicely and impart the flavor I like adding to shrimp ramen.

Pure natural MSG!
Kombu is very versatile food. I put some pieces of dried kombu on top of rice when cooking sushi rice. It flavours the sushi rice really nicely. Also use it for making udon/soba soup or sauce for side dishes. It has a subtle, umami-rich flavor with a touch of sweetness that balances the savory note. The kombu still has some moisture, but you can dry it completely in a dehydrator and use a herb mill to grind it finely. This powder can be used in soups and Japanese Kombucha (distinct from American kombucha). As I don't have a dehydrator, I will try using the microwave to dry it and make powder one of these days.

Excellent Kombu - Great for Making Kombu Dashi
The Besway Kombu Seaweed is an excellent ingredient to make a savory kombu dashi. The seaweed pieces are large, thick, and coated with a nice powdery layer of natural MSG. To use, simply wipe off the kombu with a damp cloth to remove any sand, leaving the powdery white msg on it, and then soak the kombu overnight in the fridge to extract the flavor. You can also simmer the kombu if you want to enjoy it right away - just be careful not to boil it as it can and will get mushy. The flavor is good - it's savory and delicious, and something I would purchase again.

A Pantry Must
As half of the magical broth known as "dashi," kombu (dried kelp) is a wonderful thing to keep in your pantry. It is a great natural source of glutamate/MSG which is what imparts that "umami" flavor to your favorite foods. You just throw some in some very hot (almost boiling) water and let it soak until the desired flavor is reached. If you have some dried bonito flakes, you can go ahead and make some dashi and then the sky is the limit (miso soup, udon noodles, cold soba noodles, etc.) Even if you don't have the flakes, you still have a magical broth that plays well with just about any other savory flavor. Oh, and if that's not good enough, when properly sealed and stored, it will last for several years.I used this kombu to make some miso soup and was truly delicious. Better than the instant dashi powder we normally use. 8 oz doesn't sound like a lot, but it really makes a lot of broth. Fantastic product.

Good box of Kombu
Good box of Kombu that you can use for various things.I used it for making a Ramen Tare. Steep the kombu in wine/water. Don't boil it and it doesn't get all slimy. This is comparable to the stuff I got in asian markets but more convenient since it gets delivered to my door!I would likely not get this again though since it's more than I'd go through in a couple months and it would then lose its potency.

good and delicious
The item being reviewed is Besway Kombu Seaweed: Elevate Your Cooking with Nature’s Flavor Booster. Priced at $9.99 at the time of review. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars. The kombu is nicely packaged and comes inside a sturdy plastic box. It seems of premium quality. I do think half the price you pay is probably for the packaging, though. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The kombu itself is good and delicious.

perfect for vegan dashi or a dry ramen topping!
I made some vegan dashi with this, and it was pretty good! This is a high quality kombu for sure. After making the broth, I sliced up the piece of kelp I used into small pieces and added it back into my ramen. While it was pretty soft, I thought it was still good and didn't have an unpleasant texture. You can also just use it as a dry topping if you don't like the soft texture! This comes in a sealed bag that is inside of a sealed plastic box, making it pretty tamper proof and a safe product to buy. $10 for 8oz of kombu is a pretty good price, I recommend this to anyone looking to add some umami flavor to their asian dishes!
