Q: My understanding is that composting needs air flows. How does this bin provide the air flow? From the photo, it looks pretty sealed.

For the composting process, airflow is indeed required to effectively decompose and mature the waste. Oxygen is one of the key factors required by bacteria to break down organic matter during the composting process. For trash bags that appear to be airtight, there are several ways to provide airflow: 1. Vents (300L version) are set on the sides or top of the bin and come with a self-adhesive lid to prevent insects or small animals from entering. 2. Turn over regularly: Even if the bin is sealed, you can periodically open the lid and turn the trash at the bottom with a tool to promote air circulation. This introduces new oxygen, which helps bacteria break down the waste. 3. Layered filling: When filling the trash can, organic waste can be alternately layered with wooden materials such as leaves and branches. Doing this will provide more ventilation space and help airflow into the bin. It is important to note that odors from waste during the composting process may be present, but with proper ventilation and maintenance, their impact on the surrounding environment can be minimized.
