Sound quality from cd is great! TAEYEON's voice is gorgeous as usual. CD comes with a little booklet of beautiful Taeyeon pictures. Only thing I was a little disappointed about was that SM could have designed the package a little better. The last page of the book is slightly tearing off, but not a big deal enough for me to rate this down. Thank you for keeping Taeyeon's voice alive!

Just six months since the release of her Christmas-themed EP, Taeyeon has returned with another EP. Titled Something New, the mini-album comes with a photobook, as well as a photocard. Both the outer album cover and the photobook are notably minimalistic in appearance, and it's a decent indicator that the focus for this release is in the music itself. On the disc, you'll find six tracks:1) Something New - A song that certainly lives up to its name. The music video went a long way in securing my love for this title track, with both the music and the visuals feeling incredibly stylish and like something out of a Tarantino film. This is proper murder music - the kind of song you listen to when you feel sultry, confident and in control, and it's a style that suits Taeyeon really well.2) All Night Long (ft. Lucas of NCT) - An easy-to-listen-to R&B track with an appearance from Lucas of NCT. I'm not familiar with Lucas or NCT, but I'd probably say that the song could have benefitted from featuring more of him beyond the opening. Though enjoyable and easy on the ears, it could've perhaps done with something to spice it up a little more.3) Baram X3 - My personal favourite of the five new songs on here. For a song that focuses on a cheating boyfriend, I love how bouncy, fun and somehow innocent it sounds. It's incredibly enjoyable and also features some fantastic wordplay in its lyrics, using the double meaning of the Korean phrase 'Baram' to brilliant effect.4) One Day - A really sweet, loving song that feels like a great big warm hug. The lyrics about wanting to make someone's birthday as special as possible and give them the perfect day are delivered with a lot of meaning and once again have an air of innocence about them.5) Circus - I remember before its release Taeyeon described this mini-album as a gift to her fans, and of all the songs on here, this is the one that lives up to that promise. Looking at the lyrics, it contains a reflective, open and very honest message about life as an idol and why someone like Taeyeon endures everything that comes with it. After Baram X3, it's a close contender for my favourite song on here.6) Something New (Instrumental) - Listening to the instrumental of the title track made me really appreciate the inclusion of more jazz elements to the music. It manages to be both calming and relaxing, while also being funky at the same time.While I wouldn't say Something New surpasses some of Taeyeon's other work (her full album, My Voice, still coming top for me), this is still a neat and much-appreciated release. It mixes Taeyeon's familiar music and sound with, as the album title would suggest, something new and different, and there are plenty of surprises here to keep listeners entertained.
