Flea Market Chic: The thrifty way to create a stylish home

Inspiring and gorgeous
This is a fantastic book for anyone who, like me, enjoys a retro or vintage interior. The subtitle is rather a misnomer - this book is certainly chic, but a lot of this stuff doesn't come cheap (witness the Aga in virtually every kitchen) and most people on a budget couldn't do half of this (for instance, my budget for renovating my kitchen is 500 euros - hence I bought an entire kitchen ripped out of someone else's house for 250 euros and am just repainting it). But it's full of really lovely interiors and crammed full of ideas, and has a very intelligent text, as always with Liz Bauwens books. I picked up lots of tips from this book, such as when mismatching chairs, make sure all the backs are roughly the same height - this wasn't something I'd ever thought of; or that you can change the entire feeling of a white dining room by just changing the tablecloth. Beautifully photographed, and gives you the impression that it would be great to live in any one of these homes: I was particularly taken with the house featured on the cover, which uses lots of brown and burnt orange (colours I hate) to create a gorgeous, textured, light-filled space. Inspiring.

Gorgeous Interior design on a shoestring.
I found this a down to earth interior design book with good quality photography. The style appealed to me, As the title suggests it has a bric-a-brac, flea market lived in feel. I find some interior books have an expensive style that can feel a bit sterile. Sort of made for glossy magazines but not to be lived in and enjoyed. Recommended.

Good but not very inspiring
Nice book with lots of pretty pictures! I would have liked more ideas to help me create the 'shabby chic look' which I love so I didn't give it full marks..

Stylish
A great addition to my interior design books. It has some good ideas to follow if you like your home to look put together and stylish , it shows how to mix much loved pieces with great finds from markets and second hand finds. Not over stylised , but a warm and welcoming home.

Great ideas
I loved the images and ideas but felt it a little repetitive and would have liked to see more examples and photos. I would still recommend it

Not inspiring
I found this a bit same old, same old. No exciting transformations or original ideas for using flea market finds but a pleasant enough read and I did find one idea I liked, using an old glass fronted china cabinet as a shoe store. I shall probably copy that one.
