nice and warm, fit is a bit off.
The vest is warm, the arm holes fit well, but the bottom hem is slightly tight. I'm a size small in all puffy vests from Columbia, North Face, to Patagonia. The bottom is the tightest on this vest than all my others. It may be due to the design to keep snow out or something when worn underneath a shell. Overall I am still able to wear it daily, but it almost feels like it's riding up since it's tight at the bottom and my waist is smaller than my hips. I feel if i went with a medium the upper would be too large. The fit just wasn't for me, possibly if i was taller. I am 5'10 185 lbs.

For Athletic (or Slim) Frames; Good for Mild Winter Days or Chilly Fall Weather
I'd call this a midweight vest. It does a great job on blocking wind, it's not bulky, it's toasty in cool weather, but I wouldn't count on it for dedicated winter wear unless you're layering it with other clothing (though this would be good under winter coats). That is, wearing it on its own for mild, sunny winter days? No problem. Braving 25F gusty winds on a December day? Probably not.For the fit, a few things to be aware of:1) This is meant for a relatively slim or fit build. The sides are straight without a lot of flex, so if you carry some extra weight, this will probably look a bit tight2) The material has no stretch, except for a skinny band at the bottom edge3) Don't size up. Since this doesn't stretch and it's fairly straight, going up a size makes it look goofy and big, not big and comfy like some other clothes. If you carry a spare tire up front and size to fit that, it's going to look oversized and loose at your shoulders.4) It has a high collar. If you unzip it a bit, you can fold the collar over, but zipped, it's going to be just taller than your chin (or it is for me). i don't mind, but if this bugs you, do be aware.5) Pockets are big enough for large hands and zippered, so that's nice.6) The inside is reflective, which looks a little disco-y, but does seem to keep the heat in. I like it.Overall, this is a good looking vest if you've got the frame for it. It's relatively warm, not bulky, and well made. The Columbia logo is visible, but not flashy, so you don't feel like a billboard. Overall, this is a great fall or cool weather vest.

Has the gold reflective layer for maximum warmth
Want a vest that is slim and light but warm, that won't make you look puffy? This is it! It's got a neat but unobtrusive pattern, high quality zippers and it is oh so warm thanks to the reflective inner lining. Columbia products are always top notch and this is no exception.

Good Quality materials; Enough Room to Fit Over Sweater or Long Sleeved Shirt
The quality of materials are typical of what you would expect from the Columbia brand. I inspected the stitching and found the manufacturing to be good. There were not any look strings or other defects. The fit was exactly what I was expecting. The XL has good length for folks over 6 feet tall and has good room inside for a variety of body types. One thing the product photos do not show accurately is the inside of the jacket. The inside of the jacket has a shiny reflective material that doesn't necessarily 'look' appealing, but really helps out a lot with keeping you warm. I've owned many vests with the reflective inside, and it helps to preserve heat. The zippered side pockets are roomy and can fit a variety of items or help keep your hands warm on cold days. The is no loose material near the main zipper, so you do not have to worry about it getting stuck halfway down when you are trying to remove the vest.Overall, It is a good product and typical of Columbia brands. I highly recommend this product for the colder months.
