Challenging for Moderate Dementia Patients
BLUF: My mother is at the moderate stage of dementia and macular degeneration. This game was simple enough for her to use and was challenging for her, but not so challenging that she didn't want to play it.FIT: The item matches the product description. This product is good for dementia patients that are at the moderate level. This game may be too simple for someone at the earlier stages of dementia.FUNCTIONALITY: I have tried similar games for my mother, but they required her to put the item in a slot or tube which she couldn't do with her vision/dexterity issues. With the stylus, anyone who can hold/control a pen can play it. This game has a thin piece of plastic over the game board. You place the design card in the slot at the top then use the attached magnetic stylus to move the pieces into one of 4 slots to match the design cards. As a bonus, the magnetic stylus stores in a slot on the board. My mom was able to easily move the little color shapes into the slots without much difficulty. Given her state of dementia she was challenged in matching the shape/color order of the design, but was determined to get it right so tried again until she got it. Two things to note: 1) With my mom's vision she has challenges seeing the differences of the dark blue and greens but eventually can tell the difference. 2) Occasionally the wooden pieces will get wedged going around the corner to the slot requiring a slight tap on the board to loosen them up. As keeping her mentally active is key to slowing down the progression of the terrible disease, we are happy we have found this game as she is actually willing to play it.FINANCE: Price seems reasonable and comparable to similar products on Amazon.

Well Made & Safe For All Users
This is one of the better activity boards that I've seen for those suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia. It's well made and sturdy enough to hold up to some of the things that these adults might do that could otherwise damage the board as a lesser quality board could possible do. I really like some of the skill sets that this requires them to work with. Not only arranging shapes and colors based on the guide cards, but having to work their brain and motor skills to maneuver them around the board. The attached pen is magnetic so that it doesn't get lost. Glides easily around the board. The surface is a thick clear plastic piece that keeps the shapes in place. Each color has a different shape which makes it easier to recognize the difference for weaker and less efficient eyes.Easily and comfortably fits on the lap. No sharp edges and it's sturdy enough that it won't break when dropped. The only issue that I have, and did not deduct a star for this, though I did consider doing so, is that the guide cards can too easily be misplaced and lost. There is a slot for placing them in, but I'm familiar enough with such people to know how easily they get curious and play with things that they then misplace. Would be so much better if they were on a ring that is attached to the board. Also, if the cards were thicker and made of something sturdier. Although, as time goes on, some won't even bother with the cards anymore and just get involved with moving the shapes around.Just a side note here - this would also be quite a good educational and skill development toy for a very young child.
