Compact and light
This hoist is one of the best retrievers I have purchased! It is light enough to our in your pocket and forget it is there! Works great!! Hook your gear up, climb and when you get into your stand pull up your gear by hand with cord, not with the reel!!! Unhook gear or gun and then reel in the tape! Love it!The Houstask hoist is a must have if you’re hunting out of a tree stand very easy to use.Highly recommend.

A Useful Tool
This bow/gear hoist is adequate for the task as long as you follow instructions. The included instructions consist of 4 photos and captions under each. It is very clear that you must pull up your gear hand over hand, then crank up the strap. The device that I received had a 32 foot strap which is adequate for most hunting situations. The strap feeds out easily enough to allow my compound bow to stay on the ground while climbing. However, it is a bit more noisy than I'd like when cranking it back up. If there are deer around when you crank it they will hear it. Whether it's enough noise to scare off deer in the midst of the forest noise, I'm not sure. The strap seems plenty strong however, the hook may not be the best quality. Time will tell. On the positive side there is plastic covering the hook on the end to which you would attach your bow/gear. HOWEVER, The hook is too small to attach to my bow without hooking it to a cam, which I'd rather not do. The solution for me will be a loop of paracord attached to my bow that I can slip the hook into. All in all, it seems like a pretty good little device. However, for around the same price point you can get a self retracting one so I have to say that the price is a little high on this one.

30ft wind up pull rope
So this is a great idea its very compact, seems to be well made, has a pre mounted carabiner hook, approx.30 ft of strong flat nylon rope,a fold out crank to reel it back up ,an a belt clip for carrying convenience. This is much easier to carry ,deploy,an wind up than a normal rope u can simply hook this right on your belt or since its about the size of an average wallet it can easily fit in your pocket as well an the included caribenier hook makes it easy to wrap around your gun,bow crossbow, backpack, etc. to easily pull your gear up into your tree stand I should also add after reading some other reviews that this is NOT made to crank your gear up like some kind of gear crane this is a easy convenient way to carry a 30ft rope on your side or in your pocket without the worry of it getting twisted and tangled up like a normal rope so the idea of this is u hook it to your gear an as u climb it will unroll then u pull your gear up just like you would with a regular rope then after u unhook your gear u can simply crank the rope back up an since it's a flat rope an the spool has guides it keeps the flat rope from getting twisted making it a breeze to roll up an just as easy to unroll I should also add that as a strength test I hung a 5 gallon bucket with 60 pounds of gravel from the rope an included caribenier hook and it didn't break so this is more than sturdy for any hunting gear or in my case I also use this to pull small to medium sized tools up to high areas since I do construction work it also works well as a safety tether for tools to prevent them from falling off a roof or wherever I may be working so overall I would definitely recommend this to anyone that hunts from a tree stand or does work in high areas since it is much easier to carry ,deploy, an roll up than any normal rope an it carries like a tape measure u jus clip it on your belt and since its compact u barely even notice it when on your side an I believe this is a well made product for the money and if used properly should last a long time

what a fun tool, basically an item ascender
I used this when felling a large dead pine tree.I was up about 40 ft at my highest. With some maneuvering on my flipline, I could ask down below for different tools, beverage, food.Attached to the carabiner, I pull up the line, retrieve my item, secure it to the tree at my location (d-rings in the pine), wind up the strap on my belt, and use my item.No constant ascending/descending.Happy with it. Heaviest I did was a Kobalt power drill and a can of... water.... at the same time. Anything more than that, I would have needed gloves to hold the strap nicely with these aging hands, but I never felt the strap was at risk.I would have no hesitation pulling up my scoped Ruger 308 with ammo... lets call it 20lbs before I wonder if that's a good idea.Reminder: you are cranking the unladen strap back into the housing, the line feeds out so you can ascend unburdened, then pull up your item by the strap itself.

Great for hoisting up to tree stand...
Picked this up to eliminate the bundle of paracord with clips that kept getting tangled in my hunting pack. 1st hunt of the season this weekend (Youth Day in SC) and clipped it to my belt on the way in to the stand. We let out slack, attached it to the rifle, climbed up into the stand, and hoisted the rifle up. Once secure, used the handle to respool the line, and it was done. This is so much better. The only improvement I could see is if it was self-spooling. Not a deal breaker though, as its quiet enough to do it myself.Side note: it was a successful hunt!
