Decent emergency-use mac
These emergency-use rain macs are made of a plastic that is thicker than the disposable ones you can get, but thinner than the one expensive long-term-use pack-a-macs. They therefore represent a sort of middle ground - for people who want something a bit better than something that is essentially a bin-liner, but don’t want to spend to get one of the more expensive permanent ones. These emergency-use macs are probably good for two or three wearings, maybe more if you take care of them, but don’t expect them to be a part of your life for the next five years. The size is a bit on the smaller side - they are large on me (5’3”, size 10-12), but OK on my husband (5’8”), but anybody bigger than him may find them too tight. They fasten with poppers/snaps, but unless you take care, they are probably a likely point of failure - it will be quite easy to rip them out of the fabric. The one real disadvantage of these is that even though they are supposed to be re-usable, nothing is provided to pack them into when you aren’t using them.So - good for the boot of the car for breakdowns, or for a festival, but not if you want something that will last for longer. Also, consider finding a small bag to put them in for storage.

Quite good quality
Ideal to put in the car boot for when it's raining. Good quality.

"One size" if you're slim and it's summer
I took a punt on this because it looked like the size MIGHT fit me (I'm a UK 16/18 depending on brand). It does! However I'm wearing a medium-thickness woollen sweater and it's a bit tight around the shoulders and JUST closes, so forget putting it on over a winter coat, even if you're a lot slimmer than I am. It'll be fine for summer when all I'm wearing is a t-shirt, but keep the sizing in mind before you buy.It won't last forever, either. It's certainly better quality than the absolute cheapest ones you can get, but unless you're very careful opening the snaps you'll rip one off eventually; and the sleeves could've used a bit of elastic or even a drawstring to pull them tight around your wrists so they don't slip back every time you raise an arm.I would say these are good in a pinch, but if you live in an area where rain comes often by surprise, or you're going camping, spend the extra money and get a proper raincoat or rain poncho that will fit you right and you can wear year-round.

A bit small
Price at review: £11.99These are fairly basic and fairly small. They are pretty tight on a moderately sized adult man. They come neatly folded up but good luck getting them to fold up anything like that small again. They work and are waterproof. The material seems fairly strong and the poppers work. They don't have any pockets.I think they're a touch expensive for what they are.

Keep you dry!
Ah, the super-useful but doesn't look great 'festival rain mac'! I've tried an assortment of ponchos for this, but if there's the slightest wind (and there usually is if it's raining enough that you're prepared to wear rain gear), then they just blow all over, even if they have press-studs down the side. Utilitarian as they are, the rain mac just works better. It stays shut, and most importantly, it won't flap up in a gust of wind to slap you (or worse, the random person stood next to you) in the face! The actual length is closer to 115 once you take the height of the hood off the length they give you, which brings it to literally just below my knee (I'm 5'10), but that's long enough to make a big difference. The material is EVA, which is kind of a mid-way between fabric and plastic, which is very waterproof. It has plastic press-studs which work fine, and a drawstring around the (kind of oddly pointy-topped) hood. It'd be big enough to fit most average men as well as women. The only thing I might say is that the sleeves may be a little short for men, as they're wider at the shoulder, so that shortens the sleeve length. But all in all it's a good festival raincoat, and the fact that you get two in a pack makes the cost very reasonable. For what they are, they're great.

Great for emergencies
I keep one of these in my backpack and the other in the car, they’re great for in emergencies, though I don’t think they would be a good fit on everyone - if you’re a bit on the bigger side they may not suit. They work well at keeping you dry, there is no warmth to them of course, but they’re ok in an emergency. They arrive folded up nice and small, but they don’t fold back down very small after you’ve used them, but I think you could almost regard them as semi disposable - although for the price you would probably want to make sure you used them a few times!
