Of several cots I own, this will be the one I take on my next car camping trip.
I do a lot of car camping in the warmer months and I like to sleep on a cot in my tent. But the cot I have been using, although comfortable and requires no assembly to set up, is heavy and huge when packed for transport. The Tomount has all the features as my big, heavy one, but takes up only a third the space and half the weight when packed. The Tomount comes with its own canvas bag for transport and storage and can be set up to be close to the ground or, with the leg extensions, about 15 inches off the ground. I like its handy little pouch for stowing a smartphone, glasses, headlamp, etc, but I wish it was a bit bigger so it could comfortably hold a book. I like that the cot is flat its entire length….i.e it does not have one raised end to simulate a pillow. The cot has a heavy canvas-like synthetic fabric that stretches tight between the two side bars making it comfortable to sleep on directly (although I will use an inflatable mattress). The legs can either be used to make a taller cot or left behind to save weight. I found the cot to be sturdy and made of what appears to be solid materials that should last for many camping seasons. While the Tomount Camping Cot has to be assembled each time it is set up, I found it went together fairly quickly and without much fuss (certainly not as easily as my large, heavy cot, but the trade-off is well worth the extra effort given the weight and space savings). I used the anemic instructions the first time, but they weren’t essential and won’t be needed for future trips. The cots are marketed as suitable for backpacking, but in my opinion, this six pound cot, unassembled, is too big and heavy to fit in or attach to a backpack and, assembled, will be too big to fit in a typical backpacking tent.If space and weight are not an issue for your camping vehicle, the larger cots that do not require assembly might be fine and a bit more convenient. But if not, the Tomount Camping Cot is a great alternative and every bit as comfortable and durable. And, they don’t have one end raised (simulated pillow built into the cot) that is, in my opinion, uncomfortable and can cause you to slide down the cot as you shift position in your sleep during the night. This will undoubtedly be the one I take on my next car camping trip.

Unique and easy setup
I like to sleep on a cot when I can when I'm out car camping. They are much easier to get in and out of than a sleeping pad that I use when I need to save space or weight. Folding cots are hugely heavy and bulky, and lightweight cots are sometimes tricky to assemble. The trick to lightweight cots is achieving tension between the two sides - that's what provides the support for the cot surface. I have another cot that requires a tremendous amount of effort to get the six cross supports in tension. This cot has a very easy solution that I haven't seen before. It uses a cool locking pivot-lever system that makes it very easy to get that tension. And the whole package only weighs about 6 pounds.I really like the fact that you can chose between two heights - about 2 feet tall, or as low as 8 inches. If you have the room, the 2-foot tall configuration is great! Easy to sit on to get dressed, put on shoes, and much easier to get in and out of for sleeping.Because there are only three supports, the ends of the cot feel a little more springy than my other cot. But that's not a huge issue, and the assembly of this is so much easier, this will be my new go to.
