As a professional organizer who hasn't been through the empty nesting phase of my life, I found it very helpful to read about different perspectives of the empty nesters and the child leaving the nest. My only experience with this is when we moved to a new city and I stayed behind to finish college and take certification exams. My 2 babies and husband went on ahead of me. I swear I could hear my children and thought the silence would kill me - thank goodness a few of their items were still in the house, so I could touch them. Needless to say, I packed the rest of my belongings, said goodbye to my house, and went after my family.When I work with families going through the "empty nest" phase of life, I feel like I will be very sensitive to their reluctance to pack everything away and find ways to get them organized and still have connections to their family. Read over several months after I became an empty nester. Of course, some more than others really hit home but all a pleasure to read. Nice to know not alone.

I am a huge fan of the Chicken Soup books and really wanted to love this one. I was looking for stories of encouragement and inspiration to help me find new avenues of finding purpose and joy during the empty nest feeling of loss. In each story, I did find empathy and beautiful ways to express the ache of the now empty nest. Yet found no stories offering hope or exciting ways to enjoy these years. Instead of feeling uplifted, I was more often in tears. It was a disappointment.

Good thoughts

When my grand-daughter left for college, my daughter and son-in-law became empty nesters. My daughter was so upset to see the last of her children go off to college.Lo and behold, I found Chicken Soup for the Empty Nesters Soul and had a copy sent to her. She Loved it! She said she could relate to so many of the short stories.By the way....4 months later, she has adjusted quite well to her empty nest!

Wonderful book for empty-nesters or soon-to-be empty-nesters. It can be a very traumatic time of life for mom (and dad) - this helps get you through it! I bought it for my daughter whose Empty Nest time is fast approaching. I'd recommend it to anyone in this time of life.

I could not have read this immediately after kids flew the coup, but one year out, it was perfect. There are stories from parents' and kids' perspectives. Some were emotional and introspective while others were hilarious. I can picture someone doing the 'snoopy dance' after the kid hits the highway! Well work the time to read.

I really liked this book. The story "The Whiz Kid" by Beatrice Brown in the Ruffled Feathers section struck a particular chord and had me smiling big time. Without giving away the story, what parent among us has not felt this about our wonderful, brilliant, now adult child? Thanks to all who wrote stories for this book and a special thank you to Beatrice for my favorite story of the collection.
