This book is perfect summer reading for any teenager 12 and up. It’s the true story of big time gang leader Nickey Cruz who was feared in NYC until Pastor David Wilkerson was sent by God to bring Jesus to the gangs. I’ve given it to many teens over the years after I read it when I was 12. A classic book n that is Nickey after he gave his heart to Jesus. Awesome book!

Real life Testimony & Keeps your attention. I finished in 3 days and I am NOT a reader. Thought provoking.

I won't give her name, but my mother was a member of the Mau Maus with Nicky. She is partially blind so I read the book to her. While it brought back some good memories, it brought back many bad memories. She remembered all of the friends she lost and the pain she put my grandparents through. My mom left the Mau Maus when she was 18, as she became pregnant and married my dad (dad wasn't a part of the gang). Mom also rediscovered her relationship with her God and has gone on to be a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is 79 years old, and has openly shared about her time in the Mau Maus with her kids and grandkids. She did this in hopes she would open our eye to the dangerous life in a gang, and she did just that. She isn't proud of her affiliation with the Mau Maus, but she also isn't ashamed. She say it was what it was and during that time period in Brooklyn you either became a part of a gang, or a victim of one. She send her love and blessings to any members out their who are still alive, and hopes they found their piece with their God and life.

Loved the book very much. I had read this many years ago in Spanish and recently picked it up again for our ladies book club at church. They all loved the book so much. Tears and lots of laughs, also a lot of things that we were able to connect to. Highly recommend .

The first part of this book is sometimes scary and ugly to read, but so real you may not be able to put it down. Think you had a rough childhood?This book may lead you, like me, to count your blessings! The second half deals with Nicky's life after his dramatic conversion. It is the reason I did not give five stars. Mr. Cruz has mentioned elsewhere that he was not happy with the collaboration and "help" he got in "writing" this book. Sometimes, by no means not all of the time, after the time where Mr. Cruz is converted, some parts read like a Hollywood version of Christianity. Some words just don't seem to match the people who supposedly spoke them. Some of the conversions seem at least a little too fast, pat and formulaic. Overall though, I beleve the truth shines through. I really felt a great spiritual blessing in reading this book as if I were witnessing some of the true followers of the apostles in Acts. So moving. If you haven't seen The Cross and The Switchblade, where Eric Estrada plays the role of Mr. Cruz, by all means do so. Thousands have come to Messiah after watching it. It too seems to bring the presence of the Holy Spirit down upon one.

The Word of Faith Pentacostal movement has a lot of hype and unverifiable rumor that keep people hanging on to many beliefs in miracles. Of course miracles do happen, but in my 8 years with them I personally didn't see anything dramatic. I kept thinking one day I would see the real thing. I have concluded that all that falling out is not what people think it is and the tongues doesn't always come from where they believe it does. I got tired of all the hype and money grubbing. However, based on the books by David Wilkerson and Nicky Cruz, I believe these guys were the genuine article and their reports inform us how the Holy Spirit really does operate. I went to many camp meetings and saw it all.....it was a big show. I went to three years of Bible school and heard some pretty suspect, unbiblical teaching. Repentance and conviction of sin....the CROSS.....these are the real thing. Setting up your pastors to be rich, babbling away, undulating your hips, and prophesying the next move of God - it all gets old. Nicky and David put their lives on the line and the Holy Spirit suddenly moved powerfully again and again rescuing and saving hundreds of people who were miserably on the wide road to hell.

Amazing story of God’s work. He can save a anyone. What you do with his salivation is all part of his Amazing plan.Though I walk through the valley, I will have no fear what he is with me. ❤️

This book tells of situations from years ago that exist now. They are as relevant today as any time. It is shocking and hopeful but it is also immensely challenging.It is easy to read and sets out the strength of God when we come to Him to repent.READ IT! It will be the best thing you do.

This is a very good Christian auto biography and captures the condition of New York during 1970s . The gang culture, violence around it everything was written in detail as Nicky Cruz was one among them.This is a beautiful testimony of a gang leader coming to CHRIST and becoming a life long servant for GOD. The first one third is full of gang wars , violence and depravity it is not for the faint hearted.But the incidents leading to Nicky Cruz's salvation and his transformation into a Christian later on is explained in a heart touching manner. The story doesn't end with Nicky 's salvation but it also explains how he struggled with his new life , his struggles during ministry, his own personal spiritual troubles and how GOD helped him throughout all of them are very inspiring.Thank you JESUS for giving us people like David Wilkerson who dared to take the gospel to one of the deadliest people .Very good novel.

Wow excellent testimony and a wake up call for parents and Christians to see the needs of our youth and children and brokenness. We have failed a generation I also was caught up in alcohol drugs etc and Jesus saved me . We have time folks to rise up and teach children and youth before Satan does . Again excellent testimony . This all started because one man was fearless to approach the hardest gangster so it’s up to all of us to do our part myself included . Praise God for Nicky Cruz and the glory of God and teen challenge which today has spread worldwide vision and obedience . Thank you Jesus for taking a life and restoring it for your glory

A story we all should read about the endless love of God to peruse Nicky and of Nicky’s response to what Jesus did for him and us. Nicky’s passion to help those who sadly grow up without knowing the love and teaching from a parent or because of circumstances don’t experience a safe and happy childhood, should stir our own hearts to do as Jesus did and reach out to those who need our help. Well written.

This book is really powerful. Its not just another story about a conversion. Its the living testimony how powerful that sentence actually is: "Jesus Loves You". Apart from the fact that i learned more about Gods amazing grace i learned the importance of telling people that they are loved by jesus. Cause jesus changes everything. Its just amazing. Get it. So good
