So many happy developments!
My husband and I love the Mitford series and its author, Jan Karon. We feel like the characters (and Ms. Karon) are members of our family! In this book, we meet new characters and experience surprising developments in the lives of the familiar cast. As in all of the Mitford books, there is mystery, excitement, poignancy, and hope woven throughout the storylines. Highly recommend to all!

My sister loves the Mitford books and this one especially!
This book was a gift for my sister who is a Mitford series fan. I gave it 5 stars because she told me she LOVES it! She didn't elaborate why. I know from the few books from this series that I've read that the stories are endearing, interesting with characters that are real and likeable. There is enough real-life drama included that the episodes are lifelike with spice yet always uplifting and entertaining.

Enjoyable read. Anyone that enjoys an engaging story that is lighthearted with lovable characters, then this is a wonderful series.
I particularly liked not having to skip over profanity and gratuitous physical interactions, i.e. sex. The story and characters are strong enough for a clean, enjoyable read. Kind of like the old classic movies, strong acting with good morals.

Well written and in good shape
I liked the fact that this book, written quite a while ago, was in good shape for a used book. It also came rather quickly. Would be nice if the waiting time wasn't so long, but I did get it just in time as I finished 3 other books.

Love in Action
As Father Tim and Cynthia prepare for his retirement, they find much need to serve in Mitford. They open their hearts and their home to help and to show love to those who desperately need it.Meanwhile, the mayoral election looms, and Mayor Esther Cunningham faces a serious challenge. Plus, someone is buying property in the town and working hard to buy more. Who is behind these offers?Love, forgiveness, redemption, and healing are major themes in this novel.I highly recommend this novel.

Wonderful Books!
Out to Canaan is the third book in the Mitford series by Jan Karon. Of all the books I have read (too many to count)these are the very best. Father Tim, Dooley, Cynthia and Barnabas,(a black dog that Father Tim describes as "big as a Buick") are the main characters in this heart-warming series. The setting is Mitford, a small town in the beautiful hills of North Carolina. Reading these books one feels a kinship with the town and the people due to the superb writing of Jan Karon. She is truly blessed with a gift few can boast of. If you are looking for a series of stories that will stay in your heart forever, start with At Home in Mitford and I promise, you will be hooked.

The Mitford series of books just get better and better. I'm so glad I found Jan Karon and the wonderful characters she has created. Iv'e just finished reading 'Out to Caanon' and the postman has just popped my copy of 'A New Song' through the door, Now I can't wait to start following Father Tim and Cynthia into retirement. If you're looking for a peaceful bedtime read then these could be the books for you.

an excellent read
An excellent story. Mitford is a wonderful town with wonderful people. But not all the people are nice. Just like in real life, there are those who are very selfish and want to ruin a good thing.Read this book. You won’t be disappointed.
