Rustic Furniture Workshop

Great intro to the subject
I am an experienced woodworker but not when it comes to rustic furniture. This book provides a good overview of rustic woodworking without going into a lot of project-specific detail. Basic joinery and design are emphasized. If you are already experienced with traditional woodworking, there is enough information here to allow you to get started with rustic pieces. The author's approach of allowing a project to take shape as it is constructed, rather than making highly detailed plans, fits well with the way I like to work. If you are looking for detailed plans for projects this is NOT your book but if you seek a solid basic understanding of rustic furniture construction this book is a practical source.

Absolutely enjoyable.
This book has me seeing projects as I walk through the woods. The author provides clear instructions as well as the tips required to begin to tackle almost any project from what one finds in nature. I would really enjoy more discussion of a broader variety of hardwood trees. Oak, maple and hickory are not always easily accessed. Beyond that this is a great book for do it yourself woodworking and has provided the inspiration do get out and start making furniture.

How to ruin a how-to book
When I buy a How-to book - all I want to read about is the tools, materials and procedures on completing a project (or projects). I am not interested in the author's personal outlook on life. I am not interested in going out to the forest and "becoming one with the forest". I am also not interested in your poetry or anyone else's,You may know the type - a wanna-be hippy, interested in the "experience" of everything - one that tries to inflict their own personal philosophy on life on anyone that is around. They feel that they are ELEVATED and MORE EVOLVED human beings because of their viewpoints - and that they have every right to try to get you to follow their example. Kind of like Manifest Destiny and American Indians. They shove their philosophy down your throat, whether you want to listen to it or not. They have no concept (or they just ignore) the fact that other people find them ANNOYING AND OFFENSIVE, and DO NOT SEE THEM AS ELEVATED human beings. It is their way of avoiding issues of real life, instead of reacting and interacting with real life. The book does have tools, tips, and techniques on rustic woodwork - where to get the wood you use, how long it needs to be dried, and how to put the furniture together. It does do that reasonably well. The book would be fine if it was not loaded with all the personal philosophy.

Great book
This book gives many great examples of rustic projects(mostly chairs), and gives a few "how-to" project instructions. Overall, a great book to inspire anyone to try building rustic furniture.

Not Technical
This book I rate OK, but not a great source of technical help. Good ideas and photos of a wide range of creative wood creations.
