Wish I'd got one earlier. It's cool.
Had this (8000 BTU model) for a couple of weeks now, having been considering it for a couple of years, I was pushed over the edge by the heatwave of July 2021 where fans and open windows just weren't doing the job. Glad I did. There's no denying it's pretty noisy (as you'd expect from an air conditioner!), but since I wear ear plugs to sleep that doesn't bother me overly.Order was delivered by DPD within 2 days, 1 day earlier than predicted by Amazon. I'm using it in the bedroom which is 4x4m. It comes with a 15x165cm corrugated exhaust tube, an extendable grey plastic window fitting approximately 10cm wide and up to approx 160cm long, and a plastic fitting which converts the end of the exhaust hose from a 15cm circle to (again, approx) a 25x8cm rounded rectangle. So basically for a side opening window, you need it open by about 4 inches and you'll have to find a way to waterproof the top and bottom to prevent rain getting in.The unit itself is actually quite stylish, and although it's 71 cm tall including castors, the footprint is actually quite small at around 30x30cm. I would recommend standing it on some kind of rubber mat or expanded polystyrene to reduce the floor vibration. It is quite heavy at 23kg, but manageable as a 1-man lift. Also, as another reviewer has mentioned, it'll need to be pretty close to the window because the exhaust hose isn't that long.Another thing to bear in mind is that it can't be backed up to a wall because both the exhaust hose and the intake vents are on the back, so it'll need 20cm behind it if you bend the hose at 90 degrees as it exits the unit.In terms of cooling efficiency, it's brilliant. It has dehumidifier/fan only options but I haven't tried them yet. The fan is very powerful, and as again mentioned by others, there's not a lot of difference in noise between full fan and night mode. The minimum temperature is 16 degrees, but 20 is comfortable. It cools my 16sqm room within an hour, and keeps a constant 21 overnight. The on-board controls are simple and effective - from the left, 1) Timer (hours until on or off) 2) Fan speed (High/Low) 3) Temp up 4) Temp down 5) Sleep 6) Mode (Aircon, Dehumidifier, Fan Only) 7) Power On/Off. There's a big green LED screen that shows room temp when the unit is off, and desired temp when it's running (whilst in aircon mode)Remote control takes 2x AAA batteries and has the same functionsPros:- Does what it's supposed to - cools the room- Good price- Efficiency rating A so not going to be too expensive on electric bills- Looks stylish- Powerful fan- Reasonable footprint- Good functional controls on both unit and remoteCons (suggestions for improvement):- Timer only does one on or off. Although if you unplug it while running and then plug it back in it'll start running again, so you could potentially use a 24hr plug timer. I take no responsibility if this damages your unit.- Hose could do with being 2.5 or 3m rather than 1.65m- Window kit could do with being adapted to side-opening windows (ie include triangular top and bottom sections - difficult since windows vary in width, I guess) rather than just being for sash windows- Instruction manual could include some detail on how to install window kitOverall though

Good entry level cooler
I have mine set up in a small room that gets quite warm, and it has been a joy to have during some of the very hot weather. Made sleeping actually possible. It does its job well enough for a bedroom or maybe home office room, and is great if you're able to set it up so that you're sitting right next to it.It does have some annoying shortfalls however; The vent hose it comes with is a bit too short to reach windows that only open at the top, and I needed an extension. It makes a LOT of water when it's on cool as well as when on dehumidify. Obviously this is part of the normal operation of the thing, but the internal tank seems to be too small or too badly sealed, because it tends to leak water an hour or two after it is started if you try to rely just on the internal tank. I now have it set up with a hose (which it doesn't come with) and a separate water tank. If I run it all day in hot weather it's producing about 10-15 litres of water a day. So be prepared for that. It's a fairly noisy little thing, but not much worse than a large fan of the same sort of size, it doesn't really bother me but some might find it irritating. There's a "sleep mode" that doesn't seem to do anything at all as far as I can tell, it certainly doesn't make it quieter.Overall it has its little hang ups, but I would much rather have it than do without.

Good air con.
Following the hot weather I have upgraded my previous four stars. This air con is excellent and once you have managed to find a way to get the hose end to blow hot air out of the window it’s excellent. Works for big rooms and my husband asked me to turn it off as the room was too cold (28 outside). This rapidly reduces the temp and has allowed my six year old not to be hot and bothered due to the heat outside. It is portable but a bit heavy to lift.Pros - cools fast and has long hoseCons- noisy on full pelt but you get used to it and the hose takes some getting used to.
