Getting the Most Out of RootsMagic 10

Pretty well written “how to” book for using the RootsMagic 10 Software update I recently purchased.It’s written well by the person who created the software. He’s been writing these books for years and it shows… answers everything in a “learn as you go” type format. Incidentally, the software helps one document, more so create, ones own family tree. Lots of good info in the book that helps one navigate the software that much easier.I enjoy the book and refer back to it often enough to make this purchase worth while to me.Hope it works for you.

I have used Roots Magic for almost 20 years. In that time, the program has become more sophisticated and powerful which means it is now necessary for even a seasoned user to buy a book to understand all the features the program now offers. It is a very powerful tool for storing genealogy data. I originally adopted it as I found it very intuitive to learn. Now when I try to help others adopt the program, I find they are overwhelmed by all the bells and whistles, generally they go back to Ancestry or other online interfaces which are more straightforward. I hope this book will encourage other amateur genealogists to stick with Roots Magic.As is often true with technical guides, this one was written by someone who thoroughly understands the program, so he writes at a level which exceeds most beginners or even competent users. I would use this book as a reference to help me solve a problem or answer a question. It is not a training guide for a new user and the author makes this clear at the beginning of the book.I agree with the previous poster, the screenshots are small and "gray" therefore, very hard to read. The table of contents and index is adequate. Often, a process is divided between 2 or more sections of the book (there is usually a reference to the "other" section BUT it is disorienting); and, on a kindle would drive me nuts.Previously, I have relied on the forums and chats to answer my questions, this book will help me to get the answers quickly.The Appendix is worth the price of the book as it defines many of the fact types, keyboard shortcuts, and template fields for creating sensible sentences in reports.

I am reading through this book as I work with Roots Magic. It is teaching me about features that I have not used before but would like to, for example learning to use color coding and groups. I am finding it very helpful. It is well organized and indexed to easily find what I am looking for.

I've avoided getting software guidebooks because I can usually find what I need. I was seeing people using features for this software that intrigued me. I got this book to give me better information about the full capabilities of RootsMagic 10.

I bought the book to make sure I would be able to use the new feature to full advantage in the new Rootsmagic 10 software. I prefer my instruction in book form instead of online. The book has jewels hidden away on the pages. It is very useful.

This book will make learning every feature of the software an absolute breeze!
