Best I’ve used
I’ve tried numerous home made culture formulae, and a couple of off the shelf ones but have had awful trouble with mould. This was my last ditch attempt, as I was about to give up, and go back to shout bought cultures for my mourning geckos and tarantula slings. The price was a bit of a shocker, but truthfully, it’s worth every penny and I’ve bought the big tub this time. I wait til flies start to emerge before using them to start the next tub, and ‘propagate’ them in my leopard gecko vivarium. Just the best I’ve used.

Not cheap but produces great fly cultures.
As with all of the Repashy products I have used, this works well and I have produced many successful cultures using this. Not cheap but I am not one for mixing my own blends of culture medium and this is simple and convenient and easy to use. Doesn’t smell bad either, which is important if you produce several cultures at once.

Was a bit dubious about spending this much but the product is lasting much longer than I thought. It is definitely working out cheaper breeding flies on the SuperFly than buying single cultures.

A Fruit Fly Favorite!
I raise two types of a feeder fruit flies for my spiders:Drosophila melanogaster (small) and Drosophila hydei (large). I've been using the Repashy medium for the past few months and I'm happy to say it is the best I have used! Both types of fruit flies really like this medium and are growing and thriving!I also have not encountered any problems with mold or fungus, unlike other culture mediums. It's really easy to use, just add boiling water and it mixes up quickly. You're looking for a nicely mixed firm mixture that doesn't have dry spots, or is not too runny. Before it sets, place whatever climbing medium you're using ( excelsior straw, coffee filters or shredded paper) in the container and put the lid on.Wait till it gets to room temperature (about an hour) before adding 40-50 of your flies. That's it, easy peasy!Hydei flies should start producing in about 17-21 days. Melanogaster flies in about 10-14 days.
